Delhi High Court blast: 11 killed, 64 injured 07/09/2011

New Delhi: Terror has struck Delhi again, Wednesday, when a powerful bomb went off out

side the Delhi High Court at 10.17 am. At least 11 persons are confirmed dead, while more than 85 others are injured.

Home Minister P Chidambaram confirmed in Parliament that the blast was a terror attack. However, the module behind the attack is yet to be identified. He said that the perpetrators of the blast would be brought to justice.

The National Investigating Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation and is probing all angles.

Home Secretary RK Singh said the blast was of "medium to high intensity" and created a "deep crater" at the site, adding that, "It had all the makings of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) set up by a terror group."

As per eyewitnesses, the blast was very loud and powerful. The bomb is believed to have been placed in a briefcase and left near gate number five of the court.

Amid pandemonium, the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals like Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital and Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital. The death toll may increase further as many of the injured are in a serious condition.

Gate number five of the High Court is near the reception and is very crowded in the mornings as people queue up to gain entry into the court. Around 200 people are said to have been at the spot at the time of the blast.

Delhi Police Commissioner BK Gupta is at the spot. The entire area has been cordoned off by the Indian Army; forensic teams, including from the NSG, are already at work to collect evidence, while NSG commandos are on standby.

NIA sleuths are also at the spot.

Investigators are suspecting the use of potassium nitrate, unconfirmed reports claimed.

An emergency was convened by Union Home Secretary RK Singh at the Home Ministry to take stock of the situation.

Speaking to Zee News, UK Bansal, Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs, said, “As of now, no details about the nature of the blast have emerged. The investigating agencies are probing every aspect of the blast.”

When quizzed by reporters whether it was an intelligence failure, Bansal said, “There was no specific intelligence input regarding today’s blast but this aspect will certainly be probed by investigating agencies.”

“It would be too early to say anything as to who is behind the blast as all important cites are generally on terror hit list,” Bansal said, adding, “An alert has been sounded in the entire city.”

On May 25, a blast had ripped through the parking lot of the High Court, but the police are yet to crack the case.

As per the people who were present in the court that day as well, today’s blast is more powerful than the last one.

Compensation announced for victims

Meanwhile, state’s Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the next of the kin of those killed in the blast outside the Delhi High Court while those permanently incapacitated will get Rs 2 lakh.

Those seriously injured in the blast will get Rs one lakh while in case of any death of minor, the family will get Rs 1.5 lakh. People who received minor injuries in the blast will be given Rs 10,000.

The compensation was announced after Dikshit visited the injured at the RML hospital. Terming the incident as "very tragic", Dikshit said Delhi Government will provide all possible support to victims of the blast.

At least 50 killed after bomb blast in crowded mosque, Pakistan on 19/08/2011

A BOMB detonated in a crowded mosque in Pakistan’s tribal belt, killing at least 50 people who had gathered for Friday prayers and injuring more than 100.
The suspected suicide blast was in a village near Jamrud, the main town in the Khyber tribal region, close to the Afghan border. The first big attack in Pakistan during Ramadam, it is thought to be the work of extremists linked to al-Qaeda.
Some reports put the death toll at more than 50.
Locals speculated that the bombing was a revenge attack by the Pakistani Taliban after clashes between militants and tribesmen in recent days. Most of Khyber is not under the control of the Taliban or other militant groups, unlike much of the tribal area.
The injured were ferried to hospitals in Peshawar, about a 30-minute drive away, mainly in private cars as few ambulances were available. Between 300 and 400 people were at the mosque, which would have been packed for Ramadan – normally a time of piety and quiet contemplation.
“I don’t know what happened or where the bomber came from,” said a dazed Mustafa Kamal Shinwari, who was injured in the blast, speaking from his hospital bed in Peshawar. “Just poor people come to the mosque. Is this any way for Muslims to behave? Whoever did this cannot be a Muslim, no matter what they say.”
Inside the mosque blood was splattered across the floor and covered prayer mats. The walls and roof were scarred by shrapnel, the telltale sign of a suicide vest usually packed with ball-bearings, nails and other metal projectiles.
Zahid, a resident who wished to remain anonymous, said the bomber was to one side of the mosque, against a wall. “If he had stood in the middle of the congregation, the carnage would have been to all sides and he’d have killed maybe a hundred,” he said.
The bomb exploded in an area inhabited by the Kukikhel tribe. Earlier this month, Kukikhel militiamen blew up vehicles carrying a group of Pakistani Taliban in the Tirah valley, a remote and dangerous part of Khyber. More recently locals repelled an incursion by the Taliban. “The message here from the Taliban is that we can attack you at your home,” said Zahid.
Most of the Nato supplies passing through Pakistan for soldiers fighting in Afghanistan go through Khyber, the most developed part of the tribal area.
A local official, Iqbal Khan, said the bomb detonated as worshippers were leaving after offering prayers. Bombs at mosques and other public places are usually not claimed by extremists, so as not to damage their image, leaving a vacuum in which wild conspiracies flourish about who’s behind them.
“If this was a suicide attack, then they should do it in Afghanistan, against American or British soldiers. We are Muslims, so why target us?” said Saeed ur Rehman, who lives close to the blast site. “But I don’t believe it was a suicide bombing. This was a drone attack on the mosque.”

Taliban attack in Kabul 8, Killed. on 19/08/2011

Kabul, Friday
Eight people were killed as a wave of suicide bombings rocked Britain’s cultural centre in Kabul today, a public holiday marking Afghanistan’s independence from London in 1919.
Two blasts struck the British Council offices in Kabul after three or four Taliban suicide bombers got inside the compound, prompting a firefight which started at around 5.45am and was still raging hours later.
Four further explosions were heard over the following seven hours.
The Foreign Office in London has said all British nationals affected by the “despicable” attack are safe.
The British ambassador to Kabul, William Patey, said there were injuries among the Nepalese ex-Gurkhas guarding the centre, but that none had died.
An official source speaking on condition of anonymity had earlier said the dead included “two to three Nepalese”.

British government offices in Kabul are often guarded by Nepalese ex-Gurkha soldiers now working for private security firms.
Patey added that some inside the compound, which first came under attack in the early morning, had hidden in a safe room at the centre, including a British and a South African who worked there, and a British security guard.

SERIAL BLAST IN MUMBAI , 21 Killed and 141 INJURED on 13/07/2011

Serial blasts struck Mumbai Wednesday evening, less than three years after the 26/11 terrorist attacks of 2008. The three blasts, in sequence, were timed at 6.30 pm, 6.45 pm, and 7 pm IST, and targeted in that order Zaveri Bazaar, Opera

House and the Kabutarkhana area of Dadar West. Zaveri Bazaar, centre of the jewellery industry, is adjacent the iconic Mumbadevi temple from which the city derives its name; both Zaveri Bazaar and Kabutarkhana were also targeted in the 1993 serial blasts.

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Thursday described Wednesday's three serial explosions Mumbai as unfortunate and warned that every city of India was vulnerable to coordinated attacks by terrorists.
Addressing a joint press conference with Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan here, Chidambaram said that a remote control device triggered off the explosions.
He said that ammonium nitrate was used in the explosions and added that it was unfortunate that in recent times, Pune and Mumbai had been the prime targets of the terrorists. He said that various investigative teams were on the job to find forensic evidence to pinpoint who or what group was actually responsible for the explosions. He also said that in the 31 months since 26/11, the actionable response to such terror incidents and their aftermath had been praiseworthy.
"The three blasts, which ripped through the bustling Mumbai was timed just a few minutes apart with the first taking off at 6:45 p.m. Therefore, we infer this was a coordinated attack by terrorists," Chidambaram said.

No one has claimed responsibility. Security analysts say the pattern of the attack points to a local militant group called the Indian Mujahideen (IM).

A remote possibility is the Pakistan-based separatist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), known for its sympathies for al Qaeda and blamed for the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people.

's home affairs minister Palaniappan Chidambaram says investigators have no immediate leads as to who was behind the triple bombing in the city of Mumbai that killed 21 people.

Chidambaram told a news conference Thursday that the blasts in three separate neighborhoods were "a coordinated terror attack."
He says the bombs were made of ammonium nitrate and were not remotely triggered.
There were no immediate leads as to the culprits and there were no intelligence warnings of a possible attack he added.
He lowered the casualty toll to 21 confirmed deaths and 141 injuries. He said a severed head was found that could be an 18th casualty. 9:15 am: Mumbai blasts: Twitter joins hands to help
The terror attack in Mumbai on Wednesday was the 13th attack on the city in 20 years. Amid the chaos, phonelines were jammed, traffic movement restricted and Mumbaikars stranded. But something was different this time, the users of the social networking site Twitter came together with three innocuous hashtags - #here2help, #needhelp and #mumbai which was trending all through Wednesday evening.
People on Twitter, kept the networking site updated with vital information they received on the Mumbai blasts. They helped in spreading the much needed call for help.
Twitter user Satyarth tweeted, "Food, support, time, companion, friend, blood (B +ve) - please feel free to ask fellow citizens. I am #here2help. I will do whatever I can."

Another Twitter user Sachin Malhotra tweeted, "#here2help... if taxis go off the road. Feel free to call and stay back at Chembur with my family."
8:45 am: What security experts have to say about terror and Pak military
The timing of these blasts is very significant. Firstly, the India-Pakistan talks have resumed. Then the Kasab trials are going on in Pakistan. But most importantly, the Pakistani military is currently under attack from all quarters: politicians, civil society, their media and the Americans; also there is distinct unrest in their ranks. The Americans are speaking to them and using language that people wouldn’t use with their subordinates and they’ve made it very clear that if the Army doesn’t get their act together, they will stop all funding. So how does the Pakistani army respond? Well, they attack India. It’s a diversionary tactic. The intention is to provoke India in such a manner that we will be forced to retaliate and then all of Pakistan will close ranks behind its army and be united.
Most terrorists don’t repeat targets. The only reason they keep attacking Mumbai is because there is nothing that has shaken the psyche of the country like the last Mumbai attack and they want to repeat that effect.
8:15 am: Indian shares seen lower on weak Asia, Mumbai blasts

Indian shares are set to open lower on Thursday, weighed down by losses in most other major Asian markets after Moody's warned the United States may lose its top-notch credit rating in the coming weeks.

Investors would also remain wary after three bombs rocked crowded districts of Mumbai on Wednesday evening, killing at least 21 people in the biggest militant attack on India's financial capital since 2008.

"We could see the market opening a bit weaker but that will be more due to global cues," said Ambareesh Baliga, chief operating officer at Way2Wealth Securities. "I don't think the blasts will have a major impact on the market. We have seen this in the past."

Shares in Tata Consultancy Services , India's top software services exporter, would be watched ahead of its quarterly results scheduled to be announced after trading hours.

Traders would also be watching monthly inflation data due at 0630 GMT. India's wholesale price index probably rose 9.70 percent in June from a year earlier, quickening from May, on rising food and fuel prices, a Reuters poll showed.

8:00 am: Mumbai blasts: Is underworld behind the return of terror?

The security establishment was scrambling on Wednesday for any specific inputs that would give indications of who may have been behind the serial blasts that interrupted the past few months of lull from terror.

Sources were veering around to the opinion that the likelihood of underworld involvement was very high because of a host of factors. One official pointed out that the underworld has been "hyperactive" in recent weeks in Mumbai. There have been a number of reports about various developments in the underworld such as the killing of journalist J Dey and attacks on Dawood Ibrahim's brother's driver.

7:00 am: Mumbai: Hot hunting ground for terror

Repeatedly hit over a half-a-dozen times since the early 1990s, India's financial capital has now become the favourite hunting ground for terror outfits. Over 600 people have died in these attacks. The macabre dance of death has unnerved citizens amid fears that Mumbai may go the Karachi way. Pakistan's port city, barely 800km from Mumbai, has been wracked with violence and bloodbath over the past few years.

"I am shocked beyond words. It proves yet again Mumbai's un-preparedness. Civilians are not on the radar of politicians, who live safely in their havens," said industrialist Dilip De. "It looks like a repeat telecast of the same incident. Politicians have already started the blame game and now the candle vigil marches will begin. The term security no longer has any meaning. It's a shame," said filmmaker and activist Ashoke Pandit. Former Mumbai police commissioner M N Singh, who headed the investigations into the serial blasts of 1993, said Mumbai will continue to be the prime target. "Mumbai has been attacked every three years since 2003. The city has a strong network of IM and SIMI. While the police upgraded its infrastructure and equipment after 26/11 attack, the focus should be on how to curb radicalization of youth from the minority community," he said.

6:00 am: Ammonium Nitrate used in the explosive devices, say sources

As Mumbai is still coming to terms with the triple terror strikes on Wednesday evening, security agencies are now probing the nature of blasts that ripped through the country's financial capital.

Initial investigations have revealed that Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were used at all the three blast sites - at a bus stop in Dadar, outside the popular snack shops in Zaveri Bazaar in South Mumbai and next to Opera House in South Mumbai again. Sources say that upto seven IEDs may have been used in the blasts.

4:00 am: Mumbai attacks: Indian Mujahideen suspected behind Mumbai blasts

A home-grown Islamist terrorist group, the Indian Mujahideen (IM), is suspected to be behind the three moderate to high intensity explosions in Mumbai on Wednesday which Home Minister P. Chidambaram said were "coordinated attack by terrorists".

The terror attack, which claimed nearly 20 lives, comes days after two suspected Indian Mujahideen operatives, who provided vehicles used in the 2008 serial blasts in Gujarat that killed 56 people, were arrested from a Mumbai suburb by the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad (ATS).

11:24 pm: Bharatiya Janata Party strongly condemned the Mumbai blasts and said it hoped that the government would take a clear stand on the issue of ending terror infrastructure.
'No words can ably express the anguish over these dastardly attacks. We condemn them in strongest possible words. We share the sorrow of the victims,' party president Nitin Gadkari said.

11:17 pm: The posh South Mumbai jewellery market Zaveri Bazar became a terror strike target for the third time.

Zaveri Bazar was first targeted in August 1993 when 13 serial blasts ripped through the city, killing 257 people and injuring over 700.

The Aug 25, 2003 twin blasts - one at Gateway of India and another at Zaveri Bazar -killed 54 people and injured another 244.

NEW DELHI: A minor explosion outside Delhi high court on Wednesday shattered the lull in the capital for over eight months when a low intensity explosive went off without causing any damage.
The explosion prompted Delhi Police to sound an alert in the city and strengthen security by deploying more personnel on streets and crowded places like markets and to intensify checking of vehicles.

The explosive kept in a white polythene bag near a lawyer's car parked at Gate No 7 on Service Road went off at around 1.25 pm causing panic and three minutes later, police received the call regarding the blast.

Police was groping for clues in the blast and were hesitant to hazard a guess about who was behind it.

"It was not an accident. There was a minor explosion. A packet containing explosives kept in a plastic bag near the car's right side exploded. There were minor damages to the car. There was no casualty or injuries," Dharmendra Kumar, Special Commissioner (Law and Order), told reporters.

Today's blast was the second in the last eight months, the previous one being a blast in car on September 19 last year near Jama Masjid for which terror outfit Indian Mujahideen took responsibility. That blast took place after two unidentified men opened fire at a Taiwanese media crew ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Noting that the nature of the explosives is yet to be ascertained, he said the car owner has nothing to do with the incident. He said lawyer Rajat Jain had parked his car and had gone to the canteen to have food.

"There was a sudden blast in the parking lot. We rushed to the spot and found a black bag burning beside the car," said parking attendant Dharamvir.

Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice GS Sistani as also Delhi Police chief BK Gupta visited the spot.

Lawyers having refreshment in a canteen inside the court complex and near the parking lot rushed outside after they heard a loud explosion.

"I was in canteen having a soft drink. At around 1:25 pm I heard a loud explosion outside gate no 7. I rushed outside and saw a burning plastic bag near a car. It was just below the bonnet," a lawyer Safroz said.

Four people have been killed and 22 others wounded in a suicide car bomb attack on a police station in Peshawar, in north-west Pakistan.

A suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into a police building in Peshawar in northwest Pakistan today, killing at least two policemen and injuring 22 other people, officials said.

The building on University Road, which houses the office of the Criminal Investigation Department, was destroyed by the powerful blast. Senior Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister Bashir Bilour confirmed that the attack was carried out by a suicide car bomber.

"About 300 kg of explosives was used in the attack. The engine of the bomber's car landed 350 feet away and his body was blown to bits. Only one finger of the bomber has been found," Bilour told reporters after visiting the site of the attack.

Officials said two policemen were killed by the powerful blast, which occurred at 4.45 am local time. Eighteen people, including a child, were injured and were taken to two nearby hospitals. Doctors described the condition of the two injured policemen as serious.

Police and rescue workers said several policemen could be buried in the rubble of the building, whose walls and ceiling collapsed after the blast. Army soldiers and policemen cordoned off the area and sealed the University Road. Footage on television channels showed heavy machinery being used to remove the debris of the police building.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack, which came barely three days after a group of Taliban fighters sneaked into a naval airbase in the southern port city of Karachi and killed 10 security personnel and destroyed two maritime surveillance aircraft.

The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan said it had attacked the naval airbase to avenge the killing of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in a US raid in Pakistan on May 2.

The police building targeted today is located about a kilometre from the US consulate. Last week, a US Consulate vehicle convoy was targeted with a car bomb. One person was killed and over a dozen were injured though Americans were not among the dead or seriously wounded.

Nearly 90 people, most of them paramilitary recruits, were killed when two suicide bombers struck a Frontier Constabulary training centre in northwest Pakistan on May 13. The Taliban claimed responsibility for that attack too, saying it was carried out to take revenge for bin Laden's killing.

On May 23, this year, six terrorists who were equipped with heavy weapons attacked Pakistan Navy’s airbase, PNS Mehran in Karachi. They also destroyed two P-3C Orion aircraft, detonating explosives at the naval base. Afterwards, an intense gunfight broke out between the attackers and the security forces including naval commandos. But after 16 hours, the PNS Mehran base was cleared from the terrorists. Spokesman Navy said that 10 security personnel were martyred in the operation, while four terrorists were killed, and two escaped. It is mentionable that unlike the past wars, being fought between two sovereign state actors, in the present era, non-state actors employ lethal weapons such as suicide attacks, bomb blasts, targeted killings and similar other tactics of guerilla warfare which can be more harmful in damaging the interest of a target-country. As part of the new warfare, these tactics are being employed by the foreign elements inside Pakistan.In this connection, Pakistan has become special target of the new warfare being waged by external powers such as the US, India and Israel through their secret agencies like CIA, RAW and Mossad which have also availed the services of foreigners and some Pakistani nationals in order to conduct subversive acts in Pakistan. In this regard, although terrorist events such as suicide attacks, bomb blasts and targeted killings have been conducted by these foreign elements intermittently in the last 10 years, yet such incidents have accelerated in the two years. In this respect, more than 30 people had been killed when an explosive loaded car exploded near the main gate of a sensitive agency in Faisalabad. According to reports, the occupants of the vehicle parked it near a barrier erected in front of the main gate of the office and left it. On March 9 this year, more than 35 people were killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up at funeral prayers in Peshawar.

As regards Karachi, in the past few months, a fresh wave of violence sparked by the killings of several political activists has swept the city with the terror-events of targeted killings, burning of vehicles and firings between two groups. Especially, on April 28, 2011, a blast had hit a bus carrying Pakistani navy officials in Karachi, killing five people, while that blast occurred two days after two other navy buses were attacked in the city, killing four people. Similar wave of terrorism continues in other form in Balochistan, particularly targeting the Punjabis. If we witness the previous terrorist attacks, we can easily analyse that our foreign enemies have been applying various tactics of subversion inside Pakistan. In this context, in the past, massive explosion destroyed the Pearl Continental hotel in Peshawar, killing, more than 15 persons in a suicide attack. Sources said that the gunman, sitting in one car, first started firing at the security persons and then exploded their first vehicle to give a safe-passage to other truck which was carrying 500 kilograms of explosives and stormed into the heavily secured hotel.It is notable that on October 15, 2009, at least 16 people including 12 personnel of the security forces had been martyred in foiling three separate terrorist attacks by killing 9 terrorists at FIA Building, Manawan Police Training Centre and Bedian Elite Police Training Centre in Lahore. Four days before that event, nine militants targeted the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi where in a successful operation of 18-hour, Pak army foiled a major tragedy by rescuing 39 hostages and killing eight terrorists. In the event, 12 soldiers, a Brigadier and a Lt. Colonel had also been martyred. In a similar type of terror-attack which had targeted the bus of Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore on March 3, 2009 had killed 8 persons in wake of a continuous gunfire by the militants. Pakistani officials confirmed that “grenades and rocket launchers had been recovered” which were of foreign origin. Afterwards, official inquiry disclosed that RAW was behind that terror incident.However, besides other previous suicide attacks, conducted in the Marriot Hotel at Islamabad, Rescue 15 building at Lahore which also damaged other buildings of the Lahore Capital City Police Office (CCPO) and Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) which was the main target, but could not be hit due to heavy firing by the security guards on the terrorists who came along with the vehicle and arms—were some of the other events of the same war against Pakistan. Nevertheless, the terror-incidents, especially at Naval Base in Karachi, at GHQ in Rawalpindi and in Lahore at FIA Building, Manawan Police Training Centre and Bedian Elite Police Training Centre which had involved gun battles between the terrorists and the security forces along with pattern of subversive acts through suicide attacks and bomb blasts which have also been intensified in the past few days—clearly show that secret CIA, RAW and Mossad have been waging a new style war against Pakistan, which also includes tactics of guerilla warfare—through their well-trained insurgents who could conduct attacks in major cities despite Pakistan’s successful military operations against the militants and the death of the renowned militant commanders.
While, a perennial wave of these attacks clearly proves that foreign intelligence agencies have modified their tactics of subversion in Pakistan. Apart from direct suicide events, militants, armed with hand grenades, machine guns and other latest weapons also come to help the explosive-laden vehicles so as to penetrate the security at the target points and to clear the way for the blast. Sometimes, exchange of fire takes place between the saboteurs and the security guards, and sometimes, purpose is directly to kill the security personnel. In this regard, in most of the terror-tragedies, huge quantity of explosives is also being used. Another technique of the foreign-trained terrorists is that they camouflage themselves by wearing the uniform of Pakistani security forces so as to deceive the security guards and to get inside the targeted point for conducting their assigned task. In 2009, U.N.’s World Food Program in Islamabad was attacked by a suicide bomber who was wearing an official uniform. Again, the militants who attacked the GHQ were also wearing army uniforms.

Notably, on January 27, 2011, in Lahore, an American national, David Raymond shot dead two Pakistani youths, while a third was crushed by the driver of a Parado jeep, who was called by him for help. David and persons, sitting in the jeep were also carrying weapons. Police arrested David Raymond and registered a case, while loaded weapons, a GPS satellite tracking device, photographs of Pakistan’s defence installations including tribal areas were also discovered from him. Pakistan’s sources and some American media indicated that David Raymond including his companions were agents of the American CIA and were on an anti-Pakistan mission. In fact, he is part of the illegal activities of the Blackwater whose employees entered Pakistan in the guise of diplomats.

It is of particular attention that a few days before the arrest of David, Pakistani security officials foiled an attempt by the Indian intelligence agency to enact a fake encounter for implicating Pakistan in incidents of cross border terrorism. The plan was unearthed when a suspect, working for the Indian RAW was apprehended at Sialkot border area, while attempting to cross over to India through the border security fence. Entrance points on the fence are locked and controlled by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF). The suspect has confessed to work as an Indian spy who was tasked to recruit agents from Pakistan to work for Indian intelligence. On March 2 this year, the cold-blooded murder of the Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs, Shahbaz Bhatti distorted the image of the country abroad. It is another tactic of the foreign elements who wanted to show that religious minorities are not safe in Pakistan.

Particularly in the last three years, a number of times, arms and guns were also captured from Americans traveling in vehicles in various cities of Pakistan, camouflaged with dark mirrors. In fact, in the past 12 months, Pakistan’s security forces and ISI have broken the backbone of the suicide bombers by arresting most of their commanders and insurgents, while thwarting a number of suicide missions through pre-arrests. But RAW, CIA and Mossad have succeeded in training the new culprits who are regularly being sent to Pakistan with a view to destablising our country. Now, this fact is known to everyone that Pakistan is the only nuclear country in the Islamic world. Hence, US, Israel and India are in collusion to weaken it by creating lawlessness for achieving their secret strategic interests. For this purpose, they are waging a new style guerrilla warfare against Pakistan. Without any doubt these foreign elements are behind the Naval Base attack in Karachi.

ISLAMABAD: US diplomats escaped death when a roadside bomb hit their vehicle in Pakistan's north western city of Peshawar on Friday, killing a passerby and wounding two American nationals and nine locals.

The bomb went off as two armoured US vehicles were traveling in a convoy towards the consulate on the University Road in the city.
Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack. The TTP spokesman Ihsanullah Ihsan said that it was a planted bomb and the target was the US. "Our first target is Pakistan, then US and NATO countries. We have sent people to every corner of the country to avenge bin Laden's killing," the spokesman said.

Alberto Rodriguez, the US embassy spokesperson in Islamabad said the diplomats were travelling in armoured cars."The attack was deliberately targeted against consulate vehicles," he said.

"It was a bomb blast. It may have been a suicide attack. We are still investigating."

The US maintains a significant presence in Peshawar, a city close to the Afghan border. In August 2008, Lynne Tracy, a US diplomat at the consulate survived an attack on her armoured vehicle. Last year in April, militants attacked the US consulate, killing eight people. None of the dead were US citizens, but several were security guards working for the consulate.

Pakistan has seen an upsurge in violence since the US raid that killed Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad. This is, however, the first attack against westerners in the country after bin Laden's killing.

Al-Qaida and its Pakistani Taliban allies have threatened to avenge the May 2 killing of Osama bin Laden by US commandos. On Wednesday, swarms of militants attacked a police checkpoint just outside the city, killing two officers and 15 attackers died in a fire fight that lasted hours through the night.

Last Friday, a double suicide bombing killed more than 100 people in Shabqadar town, 35 km north of Peshawar. Seventy eight of the dead were cadets of Frontier Constabulary, a police force mostly deployed in the semi-autonomous tribal regions.

Pakistan has made clear its displeasure that US did not warn it in advance about the offensive against bin Laden's, and has insisted that it had no idea of the terror mastermind hiding in Abbottabad.

US officials have recently visited Pakistan to try and mend ties, and assure Pakistan's continued cooperation in the war against terror.

Saif Al-Adel, who has been named to head the terror outift for now, is believed to have served as a member of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, the group responsible for the assassination of former Egyptian president Anwar Sadat in 1981 and is also believed to have fought Soviet forces in Afghanistan. He is reportedly under house arrest, but may have been released.

"Al-Qaeda's interim leader is Saif al-Adel, who has long played a prominent role in the group," CNN said citing Noman Benotman, who has known the al-Qaeda leadership for more than two decades.

Remarks: Al-Adel is thought to be affiliated with the Egyptian Islamic Jihad (EIJ), and is believed to be a high-ranking member of the Al-Qaeda organization.

CAUTION: Saif Al-Adel is wanted in connection with the August 7, 1998, bombings of the United States Embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya.

Al-Qaeda has chosen a former Egyptian Special Forces officer as interim leader in the wake of Osama bin Laden's death earlier this month, CNN reports.

Saif al-Adel, a top al-Qaeda strategist and senior military leader, has been tapped as "caretaker" chief of the group, CNN reported on Tuesday, citing former Libyan militant Noman Benotman, who has renounced al-Qaeda's ideology.

Pakistan's The News newspaper corroborated the claim, citing unnamed sources in an article datelined Rawalpindi, a city home to the military headquarters of the Pakistani Armed Forces near the capital Islamabad.

The decision to chose Adel, also known as Muhamad Ibrahim Makkawi, came as militants grew increasingly re

stive over the lack of a formal successor to bin Laden, who was killed in a dramatic US commando raid deep in Pakistan on May 2, Benotman told CNN.

Bin Laden's long-time deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri, another Egyptian, is considered to be his presumed successor.

Benotman said the appointment of Adel on a temporary basis may be a way for the group to gauge reaction to having someone outside the Muslim holy region of the Arabian Peninsula at the helm.

BAGHDAD – A suicide bomber driving an explosives-packed vehicle rammed his way into a barricaded police compound Thursday and killed 20 police officers in the second major deadly blast in Iraq this week.

Iraqi officials have been scrambling to show they're in control of security in the wake of Osama bin Laden's death on Monday, but the uptick of bombings suggests that al-Qaida-linked groups in Iraq remain a threat despite the death of their ideological patron.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for this bombing

or for another on Tuesday that killed nine people in a Shiite neighborhood in Baghdad. But the types of targets — Iraqi security forces and Shiite Muslims — indicate al-Qaida in Iraq's involvement.

"The attack bears the hallmark of al-Qaida which is renewing its efforts to dest

abilize the country," said a member of the region's provincial council, Hamid al-Milli.

The blast in the mainly Shiite city of Hillah, about 60 miles (95 kilometers) south of the capital Baghdad also underscores Iraq's fragile security at a time when U.S. forces are preparing to leave the country.

Violence in Iraq has dropped dramatically since just a few years ago, and Iraqi forces have firmly taken over security responsibilities from American troops. But many Iraqis and U.S. officials worry question whether the departure of the roughly 46,000 American soldiers still here will leave their country more vulnerable to violence.

Al-Milli said 20 policemen were killed and 40 more were wounded in the Hillah bombing. He said the car was believed to have been loaded with about 330 pounds (150 kilograms) of explosives. The attacker sped toward the police building and the guards did not have a chance to shoot and stop him, he said.

AP television footage showed ambulances and police vehicles with blaring sirens racing to and from the blast sight. Emergency teams lifted bricks and iron bars from the debris, while shards of glass littered the site.

The fact that the bomber was able to wipe out so many policemen in one blast immediately raised questions about security at the building.

The head of the Babil Provincial Council, Kadim Tuman, said he was holding officials at the building and at the central government accountable.

"This building was not well fortified and the changing of policemen's shifts was exposed to the enemy," he said. The central government had also failed to provide extra police and explosive detection equipment, he said.

Hillah's proximity to a mainly Sunni area at one time referred to as the Triangle of Death has made Hillah a frequent target of Sunni extremists. In 2005, a suicide car bombing targeted at security recruits killed 125 people in the city. Last year, 45 people were killed outside a textile factory when two parked car bombs exploded.

Iraqi officials said in the immediate wake of bin Laden's death that they were beefing up security around the country amid fears that insurgent groups would try to carry out strikes to demonstrate their continued strength despite the al-Qaida leader's killing.

Iraqi security forces have taken steps to show they're in control. On Wednesday, Iraqi security officials showed confessions of what they said were al-Qaida members who had killed a journalist from a Shiite TV station. On Thursday, the Interior Ministry displayed a cache of rockets and other munitions that had been seized this week.

The head of the ministry's intelligence department, Maj. Gen. Mahdi Hadi al-Fikkaiki, defended the government's ability to protect Iraq, and said his department had foiled many terror attacks before they'd been carried out. But he acknowledged that there was no way to make the country 100 percent safe.

Fawaz A. Gerges, a London-based expert on al-Qaida, said offshoots like al-Qaida in Iraq may try to carry out terror attacks as a way to show the American government and local authorities that they still exist and remain dangerous.

"I think Iraqis should brace themselves for more insidious attacks in the next few days and the next few weeks," he said.

At the White House, young Americans climbed trees, climbed light posts, donned American flags and sang the national anthem.

The feeling was euphoric as thousands of Americans gathered in front of the White House just hours after U.S. President Barack Obama made the announcement that Osama bin Laden was dead.

For many, including student Kathryn Costello, it became a moment of reflection, thinking back to the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, an act of terror Osama bin Laden claimed responsibility for.

"I think a lot of us have grown up with the memory of 9/11 and sort of this constant notion of a threat and the danger of terrorism," said Costello. "So this is a triumphant moment for all of us."

For many U.S. soldiers, including U.S. Marine Jake Diliberto, this is a day they have been fighting for.

"We feel really really vindicated that we finally got him," he said. "This is our generation's VE, VJ. This is our generation's victory and enduring freedom day."

Patriotism filled the air outside the White House into the early hours Monday.

Two hours after the announcement, with celebrations still roaring, the U.S. Secret Service brought in barriers to push back revelers from the White House.

International student Sunny Shih said the importance of the historical moment reaches beyond the gates of the White House.
"This is a very important moment for not only the U.S.A., but for the entire world," said Shih.

Many world leaders are praising the achievement of U.S. military forces Sunday in Pakistan, who killed Osama bin Laden, captured his body and buried it at sea. But they are cautioning bin Laden's death elevates security risks around the world.

Guwahati, Mar 14(NNN): A grenade attack on the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) headquarters in Guwahati on Monday evening left at least five persons injured.
The anti-talks group of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Senior police officials aren’t sure what caused the blast at the APCC media cell near the entrance gate of Rajiv Bhavan at 6.55 pm. “It could have been a grenade lobbed by some passersby or, going by the intensity and sound, a remote-controlled IED,” said an officer. But DGP Sankar Barua said it was too early to ascertain the cause. “We hope to catch the culprits after a thorough investigation,” he added.
The blast damaged much of the media cell leaving spokesperson Mehdi Alam Bora and a security guard bleeding profusely. They were rushed to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital while APCC general secretary Ranjan Bora and spokespersons Kalyan Gogoi and Akshoy Rajkhowa escaped with minor injuries.
The ULFA had during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit in February threatened to target Congress leaders and members in poll-bound Assam. “The Congress needs to be taught a lesson for splitting our organization,” said the outfit’s military chief Paresh Barua from somewhere on the Myanmar-China border.
The outfit showed it meant business by attacking a Congress gram panchayat leader in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district last month and following it up with a grenade attack on a Congress office in Golaghat district.

MARDAN, Pakistan — A suicide attack killed 21 people and 20 people injured at a Pakistan military parade in the country's northwest on Thursday, where the Taliban have vowed to step up attacks on security forces, officials said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but the Taliban have vowed to step up attacks on Pakistani security forces in the region to avenge a fresh offensive against Islamist sanctuaries in the tribal district of Mohmand.

"It was a suicide attack. The teenager bomber was on foot and was wearing a school uniform," Abdullah Khan, a senior police officer in the city of Mardan, around 30 kilometres (20 miles) from the regional capital Peshawar, told AFP.
"21 soldiers were killed on the spot and one in hospital. twenty others have been injured," he said. Two military officials in Peshawar confirmed the suicide attack and the death toll.
Mardan is some 50 kilometres east of Mohmand tribal district where Pakistan launched an offensive last month and officials said that a surge in bomb and suicide attacks was a reaction to the operation.
Some 25,000 people have fled in just a week from Mohmand tribal zone, a UN official said last week.
Pakistan suffers near-daily attacks blamed on Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked militants that have killed more than 4,000 people since government troops evicted Islamists from an Islamabad mosque in a deadly July 2007 siege.
Local Taliban, who are fiercely opposed to the US-allied government, recently vowed to step up attacks on Pakistani police and security forces.
Pakistan's northwest and tribal areas have been wracked by violence, mostly targeting security officials, since hundreds of Taliban and Al-Qaeda fighters sought refuge there after the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.
The military has claimed victory in a number of battles against militants, perhaps most notably in 2009 in the Taliban's former headquarters of South Waziristan, but attacks have continued across the country.

KIRKUK, Iraq — Three near-simultaneous car bombs killed at least 8 people and in the ethnically-divided northern city of Kirkuk on Wednesday, attacks blamed on Sunni militant group Ansar Al-Islam. More then 35 of others were wounded in the triple blasts at around 10:25 am (0725 GMT) in the west of the oil-rich city, which is at the centre of a major land dispute between Iraq's central government and its autonomous Kurdish region.
"We are certain that this terrorist group, Ansar Al-Islam, is behind this attack," Kirkuk province police chief Major General Jamal Taher Bakr told AFP.
"Our security forces will punish that group, because they have targeted all the people of Kirkuk. They are trying to raise sectarianism but they will fail, as they failed before."
Bakr said the three explosions killed eight people and left 104 others wounded. Sadiq Omar Rasul, the head of the province's health department, earlier put the toll at eight killed and 68 injured.
The police chief said the three blasts included a car bomb driven by a suicide attacker which struck the office of asayesh forces, or Kurdish internal security, loyal to the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Kurdish regional president Massud Barzani.
He said the second car bomb struck a police patrol in the same west Kirkuk neighbourhood as the first, while a third vehicle packed with explosives detonated nearby targeting the convoy of a senior police officer.
Police Major Salam Zangana, who said eight people were killed and 83 wounded in the attacks, added that a woman, a child and two policemen were among the dead.
Ansar al-Islam is a Sunni militant group created in 2001 by veterans of the 1980s Soviet war in Afghanistan and had its headquarters in Iraqi Kurdistan, near the border with Iran.
Shortly before the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, US special forces and fighters from Iraqi President Jalal Talabani's Patriotic Union of Kurdistan fought Ansar al-Islam, whose fighters fled their headquarters.
In September 2003, many Ansar al-Islam members formed the soon-to-be renowned militant group Ansar al-Sunna.
Kirkuk, 240 kilometres (150 miles) from Baghdad, is populated by a mix of Arabs, Kurds and Turkmen, and is the capital of the province of the same name.
It is at the centre of a tract of disputed territory claimed by the central government in Baghdad as well as Kurdish authorities in the north, who want it incorporated into their autonomous region.
US military officials have said the unresolved land dispute is a key threat to Iraq's future stability, and tensions across the area have led some analysts to dub the border between the two sides the "trigger line."

A BRITON and other foreigners are among the 35 people killed in the Moscow airport bombing, the Interfax news agency quoted a security source as saying.
A spokesman for the British embassy said today he could not confirm the report but was "urgently" checking the information.

According to reports, two flights - one from British Airways and another from BMI - had arrived at Domodedovo international airport shortly before the blast, which has been blamed on a suicide bomber.
Separately, the Ministry of Health and Social Development reported on its website the list of those receiving hospital treatment included one man from Italy and another from France.
The Slovak embassy separately told the RIA Novosti news agency the actress, Zuzana Fialova, was also injured in the attack and was receiving treatment at a Moscow hospital.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Three suicide car bombers struck Shiite pilgrims south of Baghdad on Thursday, killing at least 130 people and wounding more than 180 in a third straight day of attacks across Iraq.

The string of assaults, reminiscent of the bloodiest days of the Iraq war, shattered a two-month lull and presented a major challenge to the new government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who must soon decide whether to ask U.S. forces to stay after the end of the year.
Thursday's attacks were particularly significant because most of the victims were Shiite civilians, the government's core constituency. A lawmaker allied with anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, whose support for al-Maliki was crucial in enabling him to remain prime minister, accused government security forces of "not acting in a professional manner" to protect the pilgrims.
"I expect the attacks will continue ... due to the negligence of the security forces," the lawmaker, Hakim al-Zamili, told The Associated Press.
The attacks took place at mid-afternoon Thursday at three security checkpoints — one north and the two others south of Karbala, where millions of Shiite pilgrims are converging for rituals marking the 7th century death of Imam Hussein. He was a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, who was slain near the city by Muslim rivals.
Ali Khamas, a pilgrim from the Shiite neighborhood of Sadr City in Baghdad, said he saw a car speeding toward one of the checkpoints, its driver refusing to stop despite warnings shouted by Iraqi soldiers.
"He sped up and blew up his car near the checkpoint," said Khamas, a 42-year-old truck driver. "After the explosion, people started to run in all directions, while wounded people on the ground were screaming for help. I saw several dead bodies on the ground."
The dead included a dozen Iraqi soldiers and policemen as well as an undisclosed number of women and children, officials said.
No group claimed responsibility, but suicide attacks are the trademark of the Islamic State of Iraq, an al-Qaida front group believed made up mostly of Sunni religious extremists.
Such groups have frequently targeted Shiite civilians, in part because of religious differences and because Shiite parties used their ties to the Americans to gain power after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion toppled Saddam Hussein's Sunni-dominated regime.
"The enemies always develop their tactics and improvise new plans to make use of any security breach," said Karbala provincial councilman Shadhan al-Aboudi. He blamed the blasts on al-Qaida and Saddam loyalists.
"They have apparently found a gap today in the security measures and they carried out an evil act against innocent believers who were practicing religious rituals," he said.
Since the end of Saddam's rule, Shiite politicians have encouraged huge turnouts at religious rituals, which were banned under the former regime as a demonstration of Shiite power.
Last month an alliance of Shiite parties took control of the government following elections in March, during which the Sunni-backed Iraqiya party won bragging rights by finishing first with a two-seat plurality.
With Iraqiya given a role in the new government, hopes were high that the Iraqis might be able to set aside sectarian ethnic and religious differences and begin the arduous task of rebuilding the country after nearly eight years of war.
Those hopes began to fade Tuesday when a suicide bomber struck a group of young men seeking to join the police in the northern city of Tikrit, killing 65 people. The next day, a suicide bomber blasted a police compound in the eastern city of Baqouba, killing another three.
Al-Maliki adviser Adil Barwari said the attacks show extremists' determination "to undermine the new Iraqi government."
He also said the insurgents were trying to frighten neighboring countries from sending delegates to the Arab League summit in Baghdad in March — the first time Iraq has hosted the meeting in 20 years.
"They want it to fail," Barwari said. "But al-Qaida will not succeed in achieving this goal."
Although the government was formed a month ago, al-Maliki has yet to appoint ministers of defense, interior or national security, leaving him in charge of Iraq's entire security force. The attacks have increased pressure on al-Maliki, whose power base is in Karbala, to fill those positions — a task which will require hard-bargaining with the parties in his government because of the power those ministries wield.
"We have said more than once that the security situation is fragile and security violations will increase," said Amir al-Kinani, a Sadrist lawmaker. "The prime minister and other political blocs are responsible for these security violations. They have to take care of the situation."
If large-scale attacks continue, they will likely sharpen the political debate over whether to ask President Barack Obama to extend the presence of U.S. forces beyond the Dec. 31 deadline for their withdrawal set down in an agreement reached with the Iraqis in the final months of the Bush administration.
Al-Maliki has insisted that Iraqi forces are capable of maintaining security on their own, although it is widely assumed that his government will ask for at least some residual American presence despite opposition by the Sadrists and others in his government.
U.S. officials have said they would be willing to consider an Iraqi request to extend the American stay, but they want a decision by early spring in order to make plans for moving out the remaining 47,000 troops and equipment.
No such request has been made, and U.S. officials have said they would need to know by the summer if the Iraqis want a continued American presence.

India has issued a nationwide terror alert after receiving word that Pakistan-based militants are planning an attack over New Year's weekend. Officials have increased security in Mumbai, Goa, and Bangalore—specifically, at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Taj hotels in Mumbai, and software companies in Bangalore—and say that possible targets may include locations scouted out by American David Coleman Headley before the Mumbai attacks. Since Friday, Mumbai and Ahmedabad authorities have been hunting for four members of terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba believed to be in Mumbai and planning the attacks. Sketches have been released of the men, and police have stepped up security in public areas, and conducted house-to-house searches. Mumbai officials have not hesitated to issue terror alerts since the 2008 attacks left 166 people dead, and this is the third time this year that officials have issued a major warning.
New Delhi: The ministry of Home Affairs sounded a security alert across the country four days before the New Year festivities begin. The alert is specific for all locations that Lashkar agent David Coleman Headley recced. Information Bureau has picked up human intelligence which suggests that Taj Hotel could be attacked, following which security at all Taj Hotels, specially Mumbai's Taj Mahal hotel has been tightened.
The Home Ministry advisory came after a specific alert issued for Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Intelligence reports had suggested that terrorists from across the border have entered India with plans to attack Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Both Mumbai n Gujarat police have been asked to be vigilant. In Karnataka also, the threat of terror is raising concern.
Para military forces have been stationed in coastal Karnataka as inputs suggest terrorist could enter the state taking the sea route. Security forces in Goa too have been asked to be vigilant in the wake of the film festival and the rush of foreign tourists coming in for the New Year. People are advised to be vigilant and stay away from crowded places like markets and tourist places.

MUMBAI POLICE has released the sketches of four Lashkar-e-Taiba(LeT) suspects, who have reportedly sneaked into the city to carry out "violent" attacks with the aim of causing "destruction".

Issuing an advisory to citizens to remain alert, Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Himanshu Roy told a news conference late on Thursday night that: "The four were identified as Abdul Kareem Moosa, Noor Abu Ilahi, Walid Jinnah and Mahfooz Alam. The four recently sneaked into the city to carry out extremely dangerous activity."

The Mumbai police issued a terror advisory on Thursday night, after receiving intelligence inputs about four terrorists sneaking into the city ahead of the festive season.

Four members of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashker-e-Tayiba sneaked into Mumbai, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy said on Thursday. The city police also released the sketch of one of the four suspected terrorists.

The four have been identified as Abdul Karim Musa, Noor Abu Ilahi, Walid Jinnah and Mahfooz Alam. The police have released the sketch of Walid Jinnah.

"We have information that they have arrived in Mumbai to carry out violent attacks intended to cause destruction," said Roy. He refused to divulge the nationality of the suspected terrorists.

Incidentally, the Centre had issued a terror advisory for Mumbai and Ahmedabad two days ago.

"The last time we had released sketches of terrorists was before Ganesh Chaturthi. Wide- publicity was given to the sketches due to which the festival passed off quite peacefully. This time too we want wide publicity so that people remain alert," said Roy.

He added that special teams of police officers would be keeping an eye on crowded places like railway stations and religious sites.

Terror group Indian Mujahideen Tuesday owned responsibility for a bomb explosion in Varanasi that killed a small girl and left 37 injured, saying it was to avenge the 1992 demolition of Ayodhya's Babri Masjid.
In an e-mail to media houses soon after the blast, the terror group said: "Indian Mujahideen attribute(s) this attack to the 6th of December that will haunt your nation of world's ‘greatest demoNcracy' until Muslims are paid back justly and fairly for the loss of their beloved Babri Masjid, the precious lives of their near and dear ones, their pride, dignity and self-respect."

The mail was sent from an e-mail ID alfateh00005@gmail.com.

The Indian Mujahideen, blamed for series of terror attacks in India, has been using unsecured WiFi connections for sending mails to media houses within minutes of the blasts in the last few years.

The home ministry said it was verifying the authenticity of the e-mail.

An official said investigative agencies were looking into and tracking the internet protocol (IP) address used to send the e-mail.

The security agencies say the Indian Mujahideen is supported by the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group.

The security agencies also believe that the Indian Mujahideen is one of many groups that has members from the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

The group claimed responsibility for the 2008 Jaipur bombings, Ahmedabad serial blasts and Delhi blasts.

Blast at Varanasi's Dashashwamedh Ghat,1 killed and 37 injured on 07/12/2010

VARANASI: A two-year-old girl was killed and At least 37 people including four foreigners were injured in a blast at the Dashashwamedh Ghat here during the Ganga arati around 6.30pm on Tuesday. Many others were injured in the ensuing stampede. According to official sources, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has been recovered from a dustbin at the Varanasi blast site.

The girl identified as Sarita Sharma, who was with her mother for the prayers, died at Marwari hospital after the blast, according to IG(Varanasi) R P Singh. She was around two years, he said. It was not immediately known whether she suffered injuries in the explosion or in the stampede

The Ganga arati, which stretches across the Shitala, Dashashwamedh and Prayag ghats, is a daily ritual attended by 2,000 to 3,000 people, many of whom are foreigners. The ghats are near the famous Vishwanath temple.

A statewide alert has been sounded, ADG Brij Lal said.

The blast on Tuesday occurred on the stairs of Dashashwamedh ghat and was so powerful that big boulders on the stairs were thrown many metres away, eyewitnesses said.

The DIG of Varanasi range, Prem Prakash, said that the crowd was targeted. The injured have been taken to various hospitals in the city, including the district hospital.

The home ministry has sounded a nationwide alert with special stress on four major cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad - in wake of the blast in Varanasi. "A general alert has been sent to all state governments and they have been asked to stay on high alert," Union Home Secretary G K .Pillai said in New Delhi.
"It was low intensity blast which occurred at about 6.20 pm in which three-four people were injured. Subsequently we understand there could have been a stampede...as a result 15-20 people were injured. So roughly 20-30 people injured," he said.
According to home ministry sources, alerts have been issued to the four metropolis in particular.
They said a high-level team of the National Investigation Agency is also likely to visit the holy town.
Secretary for Internal Security at MHA, U K Bansal said, "We had alerted Uttar Pradesh Police sometime back. I am sure the UP police will take it as a challenge. There is no reason for panic."

No CCTV evidence in Karachi blast, says official

Islamabad, Nov 13 (IANS) It would be difficult to track down the suspects in the Karachi port city blast Thursday that killed 19 people because electricity supply to the bombed police station was disconnected and there was no CCTV footage, an official said Saturday

.
Authorities Saturday, however, issued sketches of two suspects piecing together the information from eye-witnesses. They include a youngster of around 22 years of age and another man in his mid-30s, who were amongst the 10 terrorists who attacked the Karachi police station that housed the targeted criminal investigation department (CID) office.

Inspector General Sindh Police Salahuddin Babar Khattak said 'the attackers came on two motorbikes and one SUV jeep. They fired from two sides before carrying out the blast'.
Ahmad Chinoy, chief of the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC)of Karachi, said: 'The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) had disconnected the electricity of the CID police station a day before the blast, which meant that the CCTV cameras were not working when the explosion took place.'

'The lack of evidence in the form of CCTV footage has made it difficult for police authorities to find any clue about the suspected terrorists,' he said.
KESC spokesperson Ayesha Arabi, however, denied the claim and said the power supply was restored shortly afterwards.

Banned militant outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban claimed responsibility for the high-intensity attack, which also left over 140 people injured.

As many as 170 nearby houses were damaged in the attack while some offices situated on the same road have developed cracks.

The residents and the families of police officials killed in the blast are sitting at the debris and no alternative shelter has been provided to them as yet.

At least eight police officials patrolling the area were killed in the blast and the Sindh government has announced Rs.two million each and a plot in recognition of their sacrifice.
There have been reports in the media that six suspects arrested a couple of days before the blast for having links with Lashkar-i-Jhangvi were missing since the deadly suicide attack.
'The arms and ammunition of the police officials on duty as well as the suicide jackets recovered from the terrorists are also not being found,' a media report said.

'The exact situation will only be known after the removal of rubble,' said Javed Akram, superintendent of Sadar police.

Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza said: 'We are in a state of war and such attacks should not deter us from our resolve to fight extremism.'

Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah visited the blast site Saturday and said the terrorists could not entirely succeed in their designs after being stopped at the check-post. He said the new CID office will be built somewhere else instead of the busy downtown location.

An FIR has been registered against unknown attackers while the evidence collected initially has been sent to forensic lab.

Terror mail sent by INDIAN MUJAHIDEEN to BBC (19/09/2010)

NEW DELHI: Investigations into the terror email sent by Indian Mujahideen (IM) hours after the Jama Masjid firing incident have revealed that a second-hand Nokia mobile handset purchased from a shop in Dongri in south Mumbai was used to send the threat mail.

However, the shopkeeper has no records of the person who bought the handset. Investigators believe that the terrorist bought a second-hand mobile to reduce the chances of getting traced.

A Tata Docomo prepaid mobile number — 897XXXX165 — registered at a fake Borivili address in the name of a woman was used to send the email on Sunday. "Analysis of the SIM card has further revealed that it was activated on September 14-15 and was not used for sending any message or email. It only contains welcome message from Tata Indicom. The GPRS which was used to send the email was activated on September 15. From the usage, it appears that it was a high-end handset," said a Mumbai ATS official.

A Delhi Police team, which is seeking help of Mumbai police has not made any headway from the email though it questioned the two men who sold the mobile and SIM card. Cops said that they are still awaiting the forensic report on the e-mail contents.

"It appears that the e-mail id — al.arbi999123@gmail.com — was created and then the IM mail was saved in the drafts. The email was created using a laptop or a desktop. The gmail ID was opened on the mobile at in Dongri and then the mail sent to media houses," said an officer.

The September 19 attack on foreigners near the Jama Masjid in New Delhi, days before the Commonwealth Games open in the capital, has created a scare in India and abroad.
Australia has issued a travel advisory to its citizens not to travel to India.
Justine Bowden, whose company Beltin Group will provide advisory and security to the Australian media during the CWG, says the delay in infrastructure development has affected the ability of counter-terrorism teams to train and plan contingencies for the sites.
In this interview Dr Bowden speaks about Sunday's attack at Delhi and what the thinking is in the Australian team, which is on its way to attend the Commonwealth Games.

Investigation into the Jama Masjid attack on Sunday have found that the email ID, al.arbi999123@gmail.com, which was used to send the mail to BBC after the incident was created using a California IP address. The Delhi Police have also tracked down another IP address in Mumbai.
Sources said the email ID was created using the United States IP address a few minutes before the blast. “The person then conveyed the ID and password to the email sender in Mumbai. The person in Mumbai then sent the mail using a Tata Photon Internet card that was procured on a fake identity,” said sources.
The Delhi Police are in the process of sending a letter rogatory (LR) to the US to seek information from Google on the person who created the email ID. Officials said they would ask the ministry of external affairs to expedite the request.
Sources said the Tata Photon card used to send the mail has not been traced yet. The dealer from whom the card has been procured has been traced to Dadar area in Mumbai. The Mumbai Police, with the help of the internet card dealer, have prepared a sketch of the person who purchased the card.
Meanwhile, a forensic team of the Delhi Police today visited the Jama Masjid spot where the incident occurred. Officials said four empty cartridges are yet to be recovered.

Islamabad, Pakistan -- Three explosions erupted Thursday in Lahore in and around one of Pakistan's holiest shrines, killing 41 people and wounding 175, an official told CNN.
District Coordination Officer Sajjad Bhutta in Lahore described the casualty toll as he was touring hospitals where the wounded were being treated.
Lahore Commissioner Khusro Pervez said 25 of the wounded were in critical condition and that the remains of two suicide bombers -- a man in his 20s and another in his late teens -- were recovered after the blasts, which occurred at the Data Darbar shrine complex.
One of the bombers detonated in the shrine's courtyard; the other in the shrine's lower lever, he said. Two of the fatalities were women, he said.
The first explosion, which occurred at 10:48 p.m. (1:48 p.m. ET), was followed five minutes later by a second blast, Geo TV reported.
The CNN affiliate aired surveillance footage showing the first attacker entering through a gate holding a bag. As he passed through a metal detector, alarms went off and the man ran toward an area used for ablutions and blew himself up.
Geo TV showed a second attacker entering amid the confusion a few minutes later and running upstairs carrying a bag. Then the video showed the explosion.
The third blast occurred outside the shrine; the timing of the last blast was not clear.
Geo TV reported that the heads of two bombers were recovered and identified. The bombers had arrived at the shrine on foot wearing 10 kilogram (22 pound) jackets that had been packed with ball bearings, it said.
A witness told Geo TV that one of the bombers was wearing the traditional loose-fitting salwar kameez, a turban and slippers.
"This sickening poison of extremism will be driven out of our nation and we will not be cowed," said Farahnaz Ispahani, a spokeswoman for President Asif Ali Zardari, in a text message to CNN.
"Peaceful worshipers have once again been targeted by those who want to destroy the fabric of this great country. We will not forgive or forget and we will get justice for all Pakistanis murdered in cold blood -- be they Muslim, Christian, Ahmedi or of any other faith."

27 CRPF JAWANS killed By Naxilites, 29/06/10

In the wake of repeated attacks by Maoists on CRPF, the government is working out a plan for the redeployment of paramilitary forces engaged in anti-Naxal operations in states.

The development, two days after Naxals ambushed and killed 27 CRPF jawans in Chhattisgarh, comes as the CPI-Maoist vowed to continue attacking security forces.
"We will continue to hit hard security personnel because their atrocities against local innocent people are continuing," Gudsa Usendi, spokesperson of CPI-Maoist's frontal unit, DK Special Zonal Committee, told a news channel in Chhattisgarh from an undisclosed location.

The spokesperson refused to give details about the June 29 attack that left 27 security personnel dead in Narayanpur district, a part of 40,000 sq km restive Bastar region.

The guerrilla evaded questions such as how many Maoists were killed, how many rebels took part in the ambush, who led the attack, and how many and what kind of weapons the Maoists had looted from the slain men.

"The June 29 attack was part of Maoists' continuous retaliation against police atrocities on locals," he said.

A plan is now being worked out for reconfiguration, redeployment and strengthening of the paramilitary forces in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal phasewise in consultation with the state governments.

"It has become necessary to review the deployment of forces and a suitable decision will be taken according to the operational requirement and developmental reasons," a Home Ministry official said.

However, no central forces deployed in a particular state will be moved out from that state.

According to the plan, which will be implemented first in Chhattisgarh where CRPF has faced maximum casualties in the recent past, the distances of troop posts will be reduced and in some cases the number of personnel will be increased while in other cases the posts will be relocated.

After Chhattisgarh, the plan will be implemented in Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal.

Home Minister P Chidambaram had yesterday said that "relocation and reconfiguration" of paramilitary forces in Chhattisgarh may be required as some of them were not operationally viable.

"These deployments have been made in 2007 and 2008. So, I have asked the Chhattisgarh government to examine the deployments in 2010," he had said.

Chhattisgarh police to adopt aggressive strategy' Chhattisgarh police will adopt an aggressive strategy while dealing with the Naxalites in the wake of increasing attacks by the outlaws, State Home Minister Nanki Ram Kanwar said today.

The police will adopt an aggressive stance against Naxals and will try to eliminate them rather than risking their lives, Kanwar told reporters here.

A change in strategy has been necessitated following three major strikes in the State in which the lives of many jawans were lost, he said.

Kanwar said Chief Minister Raman Singh held a high level meeting to discuss the issue but refused to divulge further details.

Iraq bomb blast: 120 killed in series of explosions on 10th may 2010

BOMB EXPLOSIONS(10/05/2010) in the streets of Bagdad lost its news value, if the death toll is in tens. But when it touches hundred, the story is altogether different. Monday began with series of blast across Iraq killing at least 100 people and injuring hundreds. This is deadliest day of this year so far.

Three bombs hit the southern Shiite port city of Basra in the evening. One of them exploded in market place killing at least 15 people. The day began with the killing of 10 people in capital in an co-ordinate attack.

The most deadly incident took place in city of Hillah, 95 km south of Bagdad. A suicide bomber blew himself up among the crowd trying to help the victim of two car bombs that went off earlier outside a textile factory.

Official in hospital said that at least 120 people are dead and more than 170 are seriously injured.

The government blamed al-Qaida in Iraq for violence in Baghdad, saying the terror group is stepping up its attacks now to exploit political instability. More than two months after the March 7 elections, it is not clear who will control the next Iraqi government and the U.S. is planning to pull out half of its 92,000 troops over the next four months.

Tall claims by Iraqi and U.S forces about the security seem to be nothing but self-satisfactory lies. This scale of violence is clear reminder of the fact that the ultras are still very active and they can topple nay government in just few months time.

There is no immediate claim of responsibility; leaders are blaming al-Qaida for this kind of attacks, saying the group is attempting to exploit Iraq’s political instability. Compared to 2006-07 the violence has fallen dramatically in recent past, but political vacuum in the wake of inconclusive election has raised the risk of sectarian violence.

In another twin explosion in Suwayrah, 40 km south of Bagdad, 11 people died and dozens are seriously wounded.

Follwing the chain of blast, third blast occurred in Tarmiyah city, 50 km north of Bagdad. This blast injured the Mayor of the city, killed five, and injured seven. More than six people died in one such bomb explosion in city of Abu Gharib, west of Bagdad.

Whoever is the killer, whatever is the purpose, but this total tally of one less then 100 clearly shows that the Iraqi mission is total failure except Saddam.

73 jawans killed in Chhattisgarh Naxal attack

At least 73 CRPF personnel were killed in an attack by Naxalites in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh early on Tuesday.
The attack took place when a CRPF patrol party was returning from a road opening duty in the Naxalite-infested Mukrana forest in the district between six to seven am.
"We have rushed helicopters to evacuate the casualties," Chhattisgarh Director General of Police Viswa Ranjan said.
The death toll in the attack may rise as many of the personnel have been seriously injured.
The CRPF patrol party was totally taken aback by the Maoists who surfaced at a hillock to carry out the attack.
During the attack, the Maoists opened indiscriminate fire and triggered an IED blast.
Dantewada Superintendent of Police Amresh Mishra told that the Naxals blew up a vehicle carrying the CRPF personnel.
The incident took place in the early hours near Chintalnar -Tarmetla village in the district when ultras attacked a joint team comprising personnel from CRPF, district forces and special police, he said.
The team had been camping in interiors of Tarmetla jungles for the last three days as part of a combing operation, Mishra said.
Four policemen have been injured in the blast. Additional police forces have been rushed to the spot, he said.
The attack came two days after Maoists triggered a landmine blast killing 11 security personnel and injuring several others in Orissa's Koraput district.
The landmine had exploded in Tanginiguda area when a van carrying jawans of the elite anti-Naxalite Special Operation Group (SOG) was returning from an operation in adjacent Malkangiri district.

Pune blast part of Lashkar's 'Karachi Project'?

PUNE/NEW DELHI: Investigators suspect the blast in Pune on Saturday was set off by Indian Mujahideen as part of the `Karachi Project' - a plot by the Lashkar-e-Taiba involving fugitive Indian jihadis and serving and retired officers of the Pakistan army aimed at keeping up the offensive against India.

Sources in security agencies believe that the Southern Brigade of Indian Mujahideen which comprises absconding IM terrorists Abdus Subhan Qureshi and Mohsin Chaudhary - a Pune resident - could have been behind the explosion in the landmark German Bakery that left nine dead.
The assessment is based on similarities with other terror attacks carried out by IM which was floated by Lashkar to camouflage its hand in the continued terror campaign against India. The date of the attack is part of the pattern that the group has followed since the serial blasts it engineered in Jaipur in 2008 - that is to strike either on 13th on 26th. The last five major attacks, including 26/11, have happened on these two dates. The only significant deviation was the attack in Bangalore on July 25, 2008.

Second, they have always struck in the evening hours and have involved blasts, with the exception of 26/11 which was a frontal assault by Pakistani gunmen.

But there are other reasons as well why agencies are veering around to the IM angle. The intelligence with them suggests that IM leaders who are part of the `Karachi Project' have been under pressure for sometime to resume their activities. As part of the project, which was revealed by American Lashkar jihadi David Headley to his FBI interrogators, fugitive IM leaders Bhatkal brothers - Riaz and Iqbal - Mufti Sufiyan and Rasool Parti are being sheltered in Karachi by Lashkar. Headley, who recceed Chabad House close to German Bakery, had also told FBI interrogators about serving and retired officers of Pakistan army being part of the project.

Mohammad Amjad Khwaja, a leading IM jihadi from Hyderabad who was lodged in Pakistan by Lashkar as part of the Karachi Project and was recently arrested after reaching here, told his interrogators that he and his associates were shown videos of Pune's Osho Ashram and Mumbai's Blue Synagogue.

The IM leaders could have settled on Pune also because the outfit has always had a strong presence in the city. Some of the prominent ones - techies Mohammed Mansoor Asgar Peerbhoy who headed the `media wing' of the group, Mohammad Atiq Mohammad Iqbal and Anik Shafiq Sayyad, and Anwar Abdulganj Bagwan, an MBBS doctor from a local hospital - are in prison. But Mohsin Chaudhary, known to agencies, along with other foot soldiers from the city and other parts of Maharashtra as well as Karnataka, have so far dodged the police hunt. Union home ministry identified the fugitives on the run as Mohammad Ali, Amin, Irfan and Abu Rashid.

Terror Threat to Vaishnodevi: CRPF

The cave shrine of Vaishnodevi, one of the most revered places of worship visited by about eight million pilgrims each year, faced a fresh terror threat and security has been beefed up.

Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) Special Director General N K Tripathi on Tuesday warned of the threat to the hill shrine, about 61 kms from here, saying it is on the radar of militants.

"There is a threat to the cave shrine of Vaishnodevi from militants. We have received inputs that militants want to do some mischief," he told reporters.

"Elaborate security measures are in place as per the threat perception. There is no laxity on part of the CRPF," he said, adding "the shrine is secured and safe, so pilgrims need not fear. They can undertake pilgrimage as CRPF is there for their security".

CRPF jawans have been put on high level of alert and are already keeping a hawk's vigil from the days in the run up to Republic Day on January 26 in Trikuta hills, the abode of the holy shrine, Tripathi said.

To a question, he said CRPF is main security agency providing security cover to the shrine an entire battalion is standing guard. A CRPF battalion usually comprises 1,000 personnel.

There is always a change in the strategy as per threat perception from time to time, Tripathi said.

"I had visited the shrine for security review after the threat inputs. There is frisking of pilgrims, round the clock patrolling, check points, nakas and electronic surveillance at the shrine and around it," he said.

Baghdad bomb blasts kill 128 on 08/12/2009

BAGHDAD: A wave of violent chaos engulfed Iraq’s capital yesterday as a series of co-ordinated bombs, including at least two suicide attacks, struck the city, killing at least 128 people and wounding as many as 513 others.

Four explosions hit Baghdad within the space of a few minutes, all close to government buildings. An hour earlier, a suicide car bomb detonated near a police patrol in the southern neighbourhood of Doura.

The attacks, the worst since October 25 when two car bombs killed 155, further called into question the government’s ability to protect its citizens and prompted angry complaints about failures by the police and army.

“We have already sent a formal message to Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki saying that the current security plan has failed,” Hadi al Amri, the head of the Iraqi parliament’s security commission, said. “It is clear that we need a new security plan.

“There have been consistent warnings that government and civilian targets will be increasingly attacked in the run-up to the national elections, but insufficient action has been taken to stop those attacks.”

Twin blasts in ISI office in Pakistan's Punjab province (08/12/09)

Islamabad, Dec 8 (PTI) Two blasts ripped through an ISI office within Multan cantonment in Pakistan's Punjab province today, injuring several people.

The first blast occurred shortly before noon and was followed soon by a more powerful explosion, witnesses said.

Military police cordoned off the area and prevented people and the media from approaching the site of the blast.

Zafar Ahir, an editor of Jang newspaper who witnessed the blasts, said the target of the attack was an ISI office.

"More than half of the ISI office has been destroyed.

I saw the building blow up," he told Geo News channel.

Several injured persons were taken by ambulances to nearby hospitals, where authorities declared an emergency.

? ? Geo News aired mobile phone footage shot by a passer-by which showed the facade of one building was completely destroyed by the blasts.

Several nearby buildings were also damaged.

25 people were injured and 4 died on Sunday when a bomb exploded outside a police station in Assam's Nalbari district, police said.
The bomb was kept on a parked bicycle and it exploded around 10 a.m., an official said.
Police suspect that militants of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) carried out the explosion.
Nalbari district is about 70 km west of Assam's main city of Guwahati.
One more blast happened in GOPAL BAZAR.
With in 15 mints 3 serial blast took place.
Assam is in RED ALEART.

Eleven Killed In Pakistan Car Bomb Blast

Eleven people have been killed by a suicide car bomber in the Pakistani city of Peshawar.
The bomber detonated his device when policemen asked him to stop for a search.
Police official Malik Jehangir, who was in charge of the checkpoint, said his officers were checking vehicles when he saw a suspicious black car across the barrier and he asked one of them to go and check it.
"I saw that there was some argument between the driver and the policeman and suddenly a blast downed me," he said.
Another witness, Akbar Ali, said that he was riding a motorcycle and waiting in the queue at the checkpoint when he saw a scuffle between the bomber and the policeman.
"He was a young man, about 20-years-old with a small beard and wearing a white cap. When I noticed that his body was swollen, I left my bike there and ran away fearing he might be a bomber."
Ali said that seconds after a huge blast threw him to the ground.
Peshawar is near the Afghanistan border and has a massive al Qaeda and Taliban presence.
It has increasingly become the favoured target for attacks by militants, particularly since the Pakistani army launched its offensive in October.
On Friday a suicide attack in Peshawar devastated the three-storey provincial headquarters of the country's Inter Services Intelligence agency.
At least 17 people were killed and 39 others were injured in the bombing. Taliban militants claimed responsibility

In an audacious attack, Maoists on Tuesday took hostage the Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express with nearly 1200 passengers on board.
After nearly five hours of intense drama, the situation was brought under control with joint forces taking over the train and a relief train being deployed to bring the passengers to safety. Till 9 pm, the relief train had yet to reach Banshtala, in West Midnapore of West Bengal, where the attack had taken place.At around 3pm on Tuesday, the train, on its way to New Delhi, was stopped by hundreds of tribals who were supporters of the People's Committee Against Police Atrocities. And while holding one of the most secure trains of India under ransom, they demanded the release of their leader Chattradhar Mahato, who was arrested in September and is under judicial custody till November 5.This incident comes close on the heels after the Maoists had abducted OC of Sankrail, Atindranath Dutta. Dutta was released after two days with the Maoists striking a deal with the West Bengal state government to release some tribal women who had been arrested on charges of having Maoist links.Today, the train was stopped and the driver was abducted and there were reports of alleged firing between the tribals and the state forces. This, however, was later refuted by Home minister P Chidambaram who said there was no exchange of fire.The villagers used the Rajdhani as a message board almost, with bold red letters on the walls of train demanding the release of Chattradhar.

The driver, K Anantha Rao, who was abducted and later released, said he saw red flags being waved and about 400 people running onto the tracks and so he had to stop the train. Assistant driver K J Rao was also taken hostage.The West Bengal Chief Minister said firmly that no way will the demands of the Maoists be accepted but he was worried about the safety of the passengers. It was time for the state government to come down heavily on the Maoists and the operations against them in Jhargram and Jangalmahal area needed to be intensified.Home minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday said the train and passengers on board were safe and that the Centre has rushed a relief train to bring back the passengers."The train is safe. All passengers are safe... good news is the train is safe," he told reporters. "CRPF and state police have reached the spot and the area has been secured. There is no sign of any other adversary there," Chidambaram said.Railway minister Mamata Banerjee was monitoring the situation from her office in New Delhi and expressed her concern about getting the passengers to safety first and also stated that the state government must take responsibility and take a tougher stance against such incidents in the state.The Pro-Maoists group PCAPA had claimed responsibility for the attack stating that the train drivers had defied their bandh call.Some men then took him away along with assistant driver K J Rao, the sources said.

80 killed, more then 150 hurt in Peshawar blast. (Pakistan) 28/10/2009

At least 80 people were killed and over 150 injured Wednesday when a powerful blast ripped through a crowded market in this Pakistani city.
The blast took place in Peepal Mandi in the old city of Peshawar, which is the capital of the restive North West Frontier Province (NWFP).
50 people were killed and more than 150 injured the bomb blast, Xinhua news agency reported.
Several shops were extensively damaged in the blast. The roofs were blown off and the walls collapsed, just five days after a bombing outside a restaurant in the city.
Panic-stricken shopkeepers rushed to help the injured.
The terror strike came soon after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton began a three-day visit to Pakistan Wednesday morning.
Pakistan has been witnessing a string of terror attacks, even as the army continues to assault against the Taliban in South Waziristan.
The latest wave of militant violence started with a suicide bombing at the offices of the UN World Food Programme in Islamabad Oct 5. Five employees of the agency were killed.
The most audacious attack came on Oct 10 when 10 terrorists in military uniform laid siege to the Pakistan Army's General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. At least 19 people, including nine raiders, died in the 22-hour standoff. One militant was arrested.
On Oct 15, gunmen wearing suicide vests stormed two police academies and the offices of Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency in Lahore. A car bomber struck at a police station in the northwestern town of Kohat. At least 38 people including 11 insurgents were killed in a single day.
A twin suicide bombing Oct 20 at the International Islamic University here killed seven people.
On Oct 22, Brigadier Moinuddin Ahmed, who was the head of the UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan, was gunned down in Islamabad along with another soldier.
A day later, 25 people were killed and 27 injured in a series of blasts across Pakistan. Eighteen people died in a landmine explosion in Mohmand Agency while seven were killed when a suicide bomber struck at an air force base in Attock district. Eight people were injured in the Peshawar bombing.

6 killed, Militants attack UN guesthouse in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Kabul has been shaken by intense machinegun fire and explosions as Afghan forces battled a group of militants holed up inside a UN guest house in the centre of the capital.
A UN security officer at the scene said about 10 UN employees, all believed to be foreign nationals, were inside the building. The United Nations said it was "possible" that UN staff were inside the building..
Sporadic gunfire was heard and plumes of black smoke rose above buildings in the Afghan capital.
Early reports said five people had been killed.
"There are five or six terrorists inside," said Waheed Sadiqi, a policeman at the scene.
Automatic weapons fire began around 6:30am, witnesses said.
An Afghan security source said one militant had been killed and three Afghan police officers were wounded.
One policeman on the ground, who did not give his name, said the Bachter Guesthouse had come under attack and that there had been a huge blast inside.
The area around the guesthouse, which appeared to be on fire, has been cordoned off by police.
Police jeeps with mounted machine-guns and fire engines were seen racing through the streets of the capital An increasingly resurgent Taliban have vowed to stage attacks ahead of a second-round run-off in Afghanistan's presidential election on Nov 7.

Blast in Baghdad, Iraq - 132 killed and 520 injured.

At least 132 people have been killed and 520 injured in two car bomb attacks in Baghdad, Iraqi officials say.
The blasts hit the ministry of justice and a provincial government office near the heavily fortified Green Zone.
They came in quick succession at 1030 (0730 GMT) as people headed to work during the morning rush hour.
This is the deadliest attack in Iraq since August 2007 and comes three months after the US handed security control of cities to local forces
The attacks have drawn comparison with those of 19 August, when truck bombs hit two ministry buildings and killed at least 100 people.
Iraq then blamed foreign fighters and accused Syria of involvement, demanding a UN investigation.
The US condemned the latest attacks as "hateful".
'Destructive agenda'
Prime Minister Nouri Maliki visited the site of Sunday's provincial government office attack near Haifa Street and later issued a statement blaming al-Qaeda and supporters of former president Saddam Hussein.
"These cowardly terrorist attacks must not affect the determination of the Iraqi people to continue their struggle against the remnants of the dismantled regime and al-Qaeda terrorists, who committed a brutal crime against civilians," he said.
"They want to cause chaos in the nation, hinder the political process and prevent the parliamentary election."
President Jalal Talabani said: "The perpetrators of these treacherous and despicable acts are no longer hiding their objective... they publicly declare that they are targeting the state."
The White House said President Barack Obama had spoken to Mr Maliki and Mr Talabani to pledge his support.
Mr Obama said the attacks were an attempt to derail the peace process.
"These bombings serve no purpose other than the murder of innocent men, women and children, and they only reveal the hateful and destructive agenda of those who would deny the Iraqi people the future that they deserve," Mr Obama said in a statement.
The UK's Foreign Secretary David Miliband said "such acts of terrorism can have no justification, and must be condemned without reservation".
Plumes of smoke were seen rising in Baghdad on Sunday morning after two vehicles packed with explosives blew up just outside the International Zone, or Green Zone, the administrative heart of the capital.
The Iraqi authorities said the attackers were suicide bombers.
Their vehicles were driven into parking bays and detonated, officials said.
A number of workers for Baghdad's provincial council, which runs the city, were thought to be among the dead.
"I don't know how I'm still alive," local shop owner, Hamid Saadi, told Reuters by telephone from near the justice ministry.
"The explosion destroyed everything... it's like it was an earthquake, nothing is still in its place."
A number of bystanders blamed the security forces and politicians for failing to keep order.
Ambulance driver Adil Sami told Agence France-Presse: "We don't want the parliament any more - let them leave us alone, we can live in peace and solve problems ourselves."
Baghdad provincial council member Mohammed al-Rubaiey said: "This is a political struggle... Every politician is responsible and the government is responsible, as well as security leaders."
The BBC's Gabriel Gatehouse in Baghdad said he felt the force of the explosions, even though he was several miles away.
He says the finger of blame is likely to point to insurgents or foreign fighters trying to destabilise the security situation ahead of Iraqi elections in mid-January.
Overall, violence has dropped dramatically in Iraq compared to a year ago, but sporadic attacks still continue in several parts of the country.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (Reuters) - A bomb planted in a vehicle killed six people in northwestern Pakistan on Monday as soldiers killed 13 militants in fresh clashes in the Swat valley where the army has made gains in a three-month offensive.
There has been a lull in militant violence in Pakistan in recent weeks after security forces pushed back Taliban insurgents in their bastion of Swat and stepped up attacks on Pakistani Taliban in the South Waziristan region.
But Monday's blast and the clashes in Swat, which followed two suicide bombings there on the weekend that killed five soldiers, will raise fears that the militants are re-organising.
Three women and two children were among those killed when the bomb hidden in a box of medicine given to the vehicle's driver to deliver went off, police officer Sifwat Ghayyur told reporters at the site of the blast in Charssada town.

Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud was killed

ISLAMABAD: There is a strong likelihood that Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud was killed along with his wife and bodyguards in a missile attack two days ago, Interior Minister Rehman Malik told Reuters.
‘We suspect he was killed in the missile strike,’ Malik said on Friday. ‘We have some information, but we don't have material evidence to confirm it.’
Meanwhile, Director General ISPR Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas cautioned that the reports of Mehsud's death are still unconfirmed. ‘We are receiving reports and probing,’ he said.
ABC News cited a senior US official as saying there was a 95 per cent chance that Mehsud was among those killed in the missile strike.
US officials have visual and other indicators it was Mehsud and Pakistanis are now trying to collect physical evidence to be certain, ABC reported.
A US official also told Reuters that there was reason to believe Mehsud was dead.
‘There is reason to believe that reports of his death may be true, but it can't be confirmed at this time,’ said the official, providing the information on condition of anonymity.
The official would not comment on the circumstances surrounding Mehsud's possible death.
RUMOURS PERSISTEDA relative of Mehsud's dead wife had initially said the Taliban leader wasn't present when the missiles struck, but rumours that he had either been wounded or killed refused to die down.
The stricken house is some two hours' walk from Makeen, and Taliban fighters had cordoned off the area, refusing to let people enter, according to villagers.
A senior Pakistani security official said that aside from Mehsud's wife, one of Mehsud's brothers and seven of his bodyguards perished in the attack.
The official said intelligence services were trying to discover the identity of another victim, and there was a good chance it was Mehsud.
Intelligence agents had also picked up signs that leaders of various Taliban factions planned to gather for a shura, or council meeting, somewhere in Waziristan later on Friday.

Who Are Naxalite?

Naxalite or Naxalism is an informal name given to communist groups that were born out of the Sino-Soviet split in the communist movement in India. Ideologically they belong to various trends of Maoism. Initially the movement had its centre in West Bengal. In recent years, they have spread into less developed areas of rural central and eastern India, such as Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh through the activities of underground groups like the Communist Party of India (Maoist) They are conducting an insurgency, typically called the Naxalite-Maoist insurgency. They now have a presence in 40 percent of India's geographical area, and are especially concentrated in an area known as the "Naxal Belt," comprising 92,000 square kilometers. According to India's intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing, 20,000 insurgents are currently in operation, and their growing influence prompted Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to declare them as the most serious threat to India's national security.
The CPI (Maoist) and some other Naxal factions are now considered terrorists by the Government of India. In February 2009, Central government announced its plans for simultaneous, co-ordinated counter-operations in all Left-wing extremism-hit states—Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, to plug all possible escape routes of Naxalites.

History of Naxalite.
The term Naxalites comes from Naxalbari, a small village in West Bengal, where a section of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) led by Charu Majumdar and Kanu Sanyal led a violent uprising in 1967, trying to develop a "revolutionary opposition" in opposition to the CPI(M) leadership. The insurrection started on May 25, 1967 in Naxalbari village when a peasant was attacked by hired hands over a land dispute. Local peasants retaliated by attacking the local landlords and the violence escalated. Majumdar greatly admired Mao Zedong of China and advocated that Indian peasants and lower classes must follow in his footsteps and overthrow the government and upper classes whom he held responsible for their plight He engendered the Naxalite movement through his writings, the most famous being the 'Historic Eight Documents' which formed the basis of Naxalite ideology. In 1967 'Naxalites' organized the All India Coordination Committee of Communist Revolutionaries (AICCCR), and later broke away from CPI(M). Uprisings were organized in several parts of the country. In 1969 AICCCR gave birth to Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist).
Practically all Naxalite groups trace their origin to the CPI(ML). A separate tendency from the beginning was the Maoist Communist Centre, which evolved out of the Dakshin Desh-group. MCC later fused with People's War Group to form Communist Party of India (Maoist). A third tendency is that of the Andhra revolutionary communists, which was mainly presented by UCCRI(ML), following the mass line legacy of T. Nagi Reddy. That tendency broke with AICCCR at an early stage.
During the 1970s the movement was fragmented into several disputing factions. By 1980 it was estimated that around 30 Naxalite groups were active, with a combined membership of 30 000. A 2004 home ministry estimate puts numbers at that time as "9,300 hardcore underground cadre… [holding] around 6,500 regular weapons beside a large number of unlicensed country-made arms". According to Judith Vidal-Hall (2006), "More recent figures put the strength of the movement at 15,000, and claim the guerrillas control an estimated one fifth of India's forests, as well as being active in 160 of the country's 604 administrative districts." India's Research and Analysis Wing, believed in 2006 that 20,000 Naxals are currently involved in the growing insurgency
Today some groups have become legal organisations participating in parliamentary elections, such as Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation. Others, such as Communist Party of India (Maoist) and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Janashakti, are engaged in armed guerrilla struggle

Terror threat sparks high alert in Hyderabad HYDERABAD: A high alert was sounded on Thursday across Andhra Pradesh after the Intelligence Bureau warned the state authorities about a terror threat.
Hyderabad police commissioner B. Prasada Rao told reporters that there were intelligence reports of three terrorists planning to carry out attacks in south India. “Since Hyderabad is the target of terrorists, we are taking all security measures,” he said.
Security was heightened in this state capital and other major towns as police rounded up 15 suspects at different places and launched checking of vehicles and frisking of people.
Security was beefed up at information technology companies, bus and railway stations, shopping malls, theatres and defence establishments here, in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam and at the famous Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirupati.
State Home Minister P. Sabita Indra Reddy said police were ready to deal with any situation. She said police were on high alert and had taken all necessary precautionary measures.
She said the intelligence reports have warned of possible attacks in southern cities. “They have not specifically pointed out Hyderabad but we are taking all precautions.”
The home minister asked people not to panic but be alert about their surroundings and report to police about any suspicious person or activity.
Meanwhile, police picked up 13 suspects travelling in the Hyderabad-New Delhi Andhra Pradesh Express at the Kazipet railway station in Warangal district. The youth are in the age group of 20-30 years. The suspects were being questioned.
Police also picked up four suspects in Hyderabad during massive checking operations. Special police teams were checking hotels and lodges.
Security has also been tightened around the famous Hindu temple at Tirupati. Police set up barricades at several places in the town and were checking all vehicles going towards hill shrine.

Hunt for robbery gang after student bashed

Police believe a violent robbery that left an Indian university student badly injured may be the latest in a string of vicious assaults - including five in one day - by a gang operating in Melbourne's northern suburbs.
Six people have been robbed in the past fortnight by a group of up to four men, described as Caucasian and in their late teens or early 20s. The victims were walking on their own after 10pm.
A 21-year-old man, who wanted to be known only as David, is the latest victim, knocked out in a vicious attack on Monday night.
The student, who has been in Australia for just two-and-a-half months, was walking home from Pascoe Vale station through a Railway Parade park at about 10pm when four men stopped him to ask for a cigarette.
"The four people surrounded me from the four corners and went behind me, they smashed a bottle on my head and I became unconscious and after that I don't know what happened. They were beating me a lot," he said. "They punched me, kicked me."
"I asked people driving on the other side 'help, help', they don't listen to me."
David, who was hospitalised for 10 hours, received stitches to his head and treatment for severe facial swelling, a black eye and broken nose.
His wallet - containing $10 - phone and backpack were stolen during the attack.
Senior Detective Steve Signorini, from the Broadmeadows robbery taskforce, said he was unsure if the robberies were being carried out by one group or separate gangs.
He said the victims were male and female and of different cultural backgrounds.
Five of the robberies happened on Saturday, April 26, in Coburg, Strathmore and Glenroy.
"The victims have stated that some of the offenders were wearing either white or dark-coloured bandannas or hankies over their faces to obviously hide their identity," he said.
Senior Detective Signorini urged people in those areas to be aware of their surroundings when walking alone and to walk through well-lit areas.

What IS Indian Govt Is Doing For The Students In Australia? Indian students, says those from his culture will often stay quiet about their troubles. "We don’t discuss things unless we are very proud of them," he says “And many students are ashamed.”

MELBOURNE'S new underclass lives in substandard housing with often high rents. Increasingly, its members are the victims of violent, racial crime. By night, they work in menial jobs where exploitation by employers is common.
By day, they study. The number of Indian students in Melbourne has tripled in the past three years. It is believed there are now up to 18,000 at universities, colleges and TAFEs.
After Chinese students, they are the state's fastest-growing demographic.
Last year, international education was worth $2.9 billion to Victoria.
Many do well. They live well, have good part-time jobs, feel safe. They succeed. But many struggle.
"Students in trouble will not speak up," said Gautam Gupta, from the Federation of Indian Students of Australia, an ad hoc, unfunded body.
"We have had people suffering badly at work but they won't even tell us where they work. That is our culture.
"We don't discuss things unless we are very proud of them. And many students are ashamed."
The Age reported two weeks ago that the City of Melbourne, the State Government and Melbourne University were grappling with the explosion in city apartment blocks populated almost entirely by South-East Asian students, mostly from China.
Research warned that the $300-a-week apartments were fostering racial segregation and the students were cut off from the wider Melbourne community.
There is no such concern for Indian students, however. Most attend cheaper tertiary institutions and live out of the city, in the cheaper western and northern suburbs. They "suffer in silence", according to Mr Gupta.
A community meeting is being held today at Victoria University in St Albans to begin to sort through the issues.
It will be attended by the Multicultural Commission of Victoria and Victoria Police.
Superintendent Inghard Ehrenberg, of Victoria Police's community and cultural division, said there had been a rise in racially motivated crimes — including assaults and thefts with weapons — on Indian students, particularly at western and northern suburban railway stations. Many went unreported.
"We need to ensure they aren't targets just because they look different and speak different," he said. "They are a vulnerable group."
In one attack, two Indian students were each hit on the head with a bat at Tottenham station in March. The youths who attacked them taunted them racially.

"This happens a lot now," said Mr Gupta. "People say 'bin Laden' or something like that. They think we look odd.
"They see our brown skin and maybe some headgear, a turban, and they say things. What can we do? That is why we stick together."
Housing is the biggest problem many Indian students face. Several real estate agents in the western suburbs now refuse to rent properties to them.
"Agents tell me that they have closed their books on Indian students because they say, through their experiences, they can have 10 or 12 people living in the place," said Ok Chang, a student housing officer at Victoria University.
Rebecca Harrison, from the Tenants Union of Victoria, said there was a perception among property managers that Indian students were more likely to damage property or leave a mess.
"It's a strange, discriminatory prejudice," she said. "But this is what they are generally faced with."
The tenants' union campaigned last year against a company called Victoria Student Housing, run by former heads of the failed Melbourne University Student Union, Benjamin Cass and Darren Ray. The tenants' union claimed they were renting inferior properties to Indian students. The company is no longer operating.
Ms Chang said unlicensed boarding houses in central Footscray — in which a run-down house is partitioned into separate bed-sits, costing about $120 per week to rent — were now popular with Indian students. Rip-offs involving bond payments and evictions are common.
International students can work only 20 hours a week under the terms of their visa. Many Indian students in Melbourne are night cleaners in city office blocks, emptying rubbish, wiping kitchenettes, vacuuming floors and scrubbing toilets.
The Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union estimates that up to 1000 Indians and Sri Lankans, plus some South Americans, are CBD night cleaners.
The union's assistant secretary, Jess Walsh, calls them an "invisible army".
"They go in when everyone else has left," she said.
"No one would know they even exist. Invisibility in the community is a very real issue here."
The students are paid reasonably well — about $18 an hour — but the union claims cleaning firms are increasingly exploiting staff by making them do the same amount of work in reduced hours, and not paying overtime.
Vijay, 22, from Mumbai, has cleaned office blocks for the entire four years of his studies. He would not give his full name, nor where he studied, for fear of jeopardising his degree, his visa or his job.
Vijay said it was common for him to be told to clean 60 kitchenettes in four hours, or an entire toilet block in 15 minutes.
"They don't give a damn about the person," he said. "For $18 an hour, you cannot have the blood of a cleaner."
Aditi Gupta, 20, from Ambala in the north of India, has worked from 11pm until 7am at a McDonald's in Collingwood for eight months.
She studies hospitality management at Carrick Institute of Education in Bourke Street.
Aditi has had her troubles, at work and at college. It was hard to fit in. But she said, in a way, it was good.
"Living in Melbourne," she said, "has taught me how to struggle through life."

Melbourne: An Indian student, Ashish Sood, studying at the Carrik Institute here was badly beaten by a group of 15 youngsters on Saturday midnight (30 May) at the city’s Chappel Street. He along with three others were attacked by the group who started teasing and bullying them for nothing and then pounced on them. Ashish was hit by a suspected metal object and the police was called. Ashish was admitted to Alferd Hospital with serious injuries and later discharged. He is in a shock and his nose is still bleeding, a friend of his told South Asia Times by phone.

A helpline to assist Indian students who are victims of crime will begin operating from Friday amid mounting alarm over violent racist attacks in Melbourne's western suburbs.

The strategy comes as statistics obtained by the State Opposition reveal violent crime has risen by up to 100 per cent in some areas in the west over the past eight years.

And the growing number of attacks on Indian students have made headlines in India, with the Hindustan Times reporting students were "scared" and the Economic Times of India warning the Australian Government's $3.5 million campaign to attract Indian students to combat the recession could remain a "non-starter" if the issue of racial attacks was not addressed.

The helpline, to be staffed by trained volunteers fluent in English and Hindi, will provide guidance on what to do and where to go in a crisis. It is an initiative of a police reference group, formed with members of the Indian community.

But Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu said that without a zero-tolerance approach to racial assaults and more police, there was little hope of stamping out the violence.

Statistics obtained by the Opposition under Freedom of Information laws show violent crimes against persons in Melton increased by 101 per cent from 2000-2001 to 2007-2008. There was an increase of 51 per cent over the same period in Brimbank, 43.5 per cent in Wyndham and 15.2 per cent in Hobsons Bay, while Maribyrnong bucked the trend with a decrease of 11.4 per cent.

The Federation of Indian Students of Australia said police had failed to curb racist attacks against Indians and it did not see many positive developments from the reference group.

Other strategies discussed by the group include educating Indian students to keep a low profile by not displaying signs of wealth, such as iPods or laptops, and not talking loudly in their native tongue when travelling on trains late at night. Police say these suggestions came from Indian members.

Federation of Indian Students of Australia president Amit Menghani said keeping a low profile would do nothing to prevent Indian students like Mr Sharma from being bashed by racist gangs.

Assistant Police Commissioner of Region Two West, Sandra Nicholson, denied police were failing to act. She said police last year established the Embona anti-robbery taskforce specifically to address attacks on Indian students.

"They have been extremely successful — last week alone they made seven arrests for robberies," she said.

Assistant Commissioner Nicholson said the increase in violent crime over the past eight years had to be considered in light of population growth in the west, with Melton and Wyndham among the highest growth areas in the state.

The helpline (1800 342 800) will be staffed from 10am to 5pm, and 7pm to 11pm, Monday to Friday.

Is it my mistake that I was born as a Tamilian or I was born in Sri Lanka?? Do these lives, these questions bother you? Every Tamilian is not a LTTE. The war has been going on for the past 30 years. Suddenly, it is now being called as terrorism and even after terrorism has ended now, there is no one who can tell whether a Srilankan Tamilian would get his Political and Democratic Rights. This war was only going on between Srilankan Government and LTTE. However what’s the mistake committed by the Innocent Tamilians that that they are being penalized and are killed. Is it just because of the Fact that they are born in Srilanka? This is definitely not their mistake? If the Srilankan Government wants to kill they would need to kill the LTTE and not the Innocent Tamilians who are not even well equipped to save themselves.
Today, the prevailing situation at Srilanka is similar to what prevailed in Afghanistan. Young children are being shot down by bullets. The bombs that fall from the open sky does not realize its enemy but just falls on anyone and everyone. Children have lost their hands, feet. Wives have lost their husbands. The scene almost looks like a Mountain of dead bodies and blood is strewn everywhere on the ground.
Is this Justice??? Just to kill a few of the LTTE’s, the history of the entire Tamilians in Srilanka has been washed out completely. To add on, just to kill a single man the war has been going on for the past 30 years, shouldn’t that be called as terrorism?? If the LTTE are terrorists then even the Srilankan Government can be equally called as terrorists.

Out of the Srilankan population 17% of them were Tamilians and majority of them resided in Jaffna. These Tamilians are unable to exercise any of their political or democratic rights. For Eg. if a tamilian scored 90% in any of the public exams he still would find it difficult in getting admission in a good reputed college. However, a Srilankan who gets a score of 40 to 50% would get admitted into a reputed college with a lot of ease. Secondly, if we move on to Government Jobs, none of the tamilians can even apply for it. It is very pathetic to note that in their own country they are being treated as slaves and they need to carry their identification cards at all times. They are also treated very badly by the police.
This organization came up under the Leadership of Prabhakaran as LTTE (Liberation of Tamil Tiger Eelam) and at that time Prabhakaran was a student. Prabhakaran asked for one person from every Tamil Family to join him in the fight for their Democratic and Political rights. Happily, all youngsters joined hands with Prabhakaran to raise their voice. In 1987 a medical student of Jaffna University called Dilipan, started the hunger strike by stating that “I will not even take a sip of water till we get our respect and our rights”. Right in the middle of the village he sat down to start the hunger strike and told his people that “However I die, whatever I do, nobody should even give me a drop of water. I am walking the path of Mahatma Gandhiji, the path of Non-Violence”. He went on a hunger strike for 14 days and struggled for the rights. Every person in the village watching him kept crying since they were unable to help him with food and on the 14th day he expired.
From then on, LTTE took the path of Violence. However, almost all the Governments such as India, US, Srilanka knew about Dilipan’s hunger strike but never took any steps to end the hunger strike and save him. Nor did they take any steps after his death.
Then LTTE became very strong. Srilankan Government started to kill young Innocent Tamilians in the age group of 16 to 25 every day stating that they are LTTE. Tamilians did not have any choice but to fight the Srilankan Government or flee away from the Country. The old aged people started to send their children to other countries for their upbringing. There are many families living abroad in Countries like India, Canada, Germany and other European Countries for more than one or two decades. They have not visited their own Country during this time. The people who do not have the money or means to leave SriLanka and save their lives have chosen the Student Freedom Revolution (LTTE). The people who left abroad have started to support their families in Srilanka and couple of people helped LTTE by providing funds. The organization slowly developed and came out as a huge army and they had their own Air force and Naval force. They started demanding their rights with great vigour and they asked the Srilankan Government to give a separate piece of land as their own country so that they could live peacefully. Srilankan Government didn’t agree to this idea and looking at their armed forces they named them as Terrorists. The entire International community trusted the Srilankan government without knowing the actual facts and plight of the Tamilians based in Srilanka.
Rajiv Gandhi’s death added fuel to fire where LTTE people were actively involved in his death. This was proof enough for the Srilankan Government to brand them as Terrorists. Finally, the international community banned this organization and named them as terrorists. Even after that, they struggled for another decade and today they are no where and no more... In an Ideal Scenario, it was 17% of the population fighting against 83% of the population. The Tamilians were left with no choice but to walk the path of Violence since the Government was stronger than them. A common man in Srilanka is well aware of a Tamilian’s plight. However, the political parties in Srilanka spread wrong rumours and stories about the LTTE.
The comparative cost of even the basic amenities would be:
A normal Paracetomol tablet in Colombo costs Rs.20/- the same tablet costs Rs.500/- in Jaffna.
A packet of milk costs more than Rs.100/- in Jaffna and in Colombo it is Rs.25/-
And today the Tamilians don’t even have a piece of bread to eat. However, the people in Colombo continue to live happily.
The Tamilians who went into the shelters of Srilankan Government are getting food once or twice a day, however the food is not good. The common tamilian has been grinded between Srilankan Government and LTTE for more than 30 years and today they are struggling for their own identity.
We appeal to you, the International Community…. What should a Tamilian do after so much of struggle and sacrifice? And what is our answer for those kids who are crying for a drop of milk and the others for a small piece of bread. Isn’t it terrorism?? We ask you to now decide as to who is a Terrorist, is it the LTTE or Srilankan Government or Srilankan Tamilian or we International Community??

As the news of LTTE chief V Prabhakaran's death trickled in from Sri Lanka, Central security agencies have sounded an alert in TamilNadu even as intelligence inputs suggest that cadre of the outfit who could have slipped into the country may try to create disturbance. Security for Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her children Rahul and Priyanka was further tightened as they were already on the target of the banned LTTE. All the three were guarded by the elite, Special Protection Group. The alert has also been sounded in neighbouring Kerala and coastal Andhra Pradesh as well to keep a watch on the movement along the coastal lines as LTTE cadre, facing the wrath of Sri Lankan army, may also make fresh attempt to slip in, official sources said. Sources said the alert specifically asked Tamil Nadu to keep a close watch as the Gandhi family may be visiting Sriperumbudur on May 21 to observe the 18th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, assassinated in 1991 during the run-up to elections. The intelligence inputs also suggest some desperate LTTE ultras may flee the war zone in the guise of refugees and land up in India. "The possible influx of suicide bombers cannot be ruled out, especially in the wake of sympathizers who may provide them refuge here," a senior official of the home ministry said.

The Ministry of Defence has officially declared that LTTE Velupille Prabhakaran has been killed from an attack of the Army. Furthermore, the Ministry says together with the LTTE leader Intelligence Leader Pottu Amman and Sea Tiger leader Soosei have also been killed from this attack this morning. Exclusively speaking to SLBC Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka said the security forces have now united the country by liberating all the areas that were under the LTTE control. He also added the Army has successfully completed its task given by the President as the Commander in Chief to liberate the country from the terrorism.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (Tamil: தமிழீழவிடுதலைப்புலிகள், ISO 15919: tamiḻ iiḻa viṭutalaip pulikaḷ; commonly known as the LTTE or the Tamil Tigers) is a militant organization based in northern Sri Lanka. Founded in 1976, it has since actively waged a violent secessionist campaign that seeks to create an independent Tamil state in the north and east of Sri Lanka. This campaign has evolved into the Sri Lankan Civil War, one of longest running armed conflicts in Asia. Since its formation, the LTTE has been headed by its founder, Velupillai Prabhakaran.
The Tamil Tigers are currently proscribed as a terrorist organization by 32 countries (see list of countries). They have a well-developed militia cadre, and are notorious for committing atrocities against civilians, for carrying out high profile attacks, including the assassinations of several high-ranking Sri Lankan and Indian politicians, and for recruiting child soldiers. The LTTE invented the suicide belt and is widely known for suicide bombing as a tactic. They also pioneered the use of women in suicide attacks. The LTTE has carried out more suicide bombings than Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and al-Qaeda combined. The LTTE has used aircraft in some attacks.
Over the course of the conflict, the Tamil Tigers have frequently exchanged control of territory in north-east Sri Lanka with the Sri Lankan military, engaging in fierce confrontations in the process. They have also been involved in peace talks to end the conflict four times, each time unsuccessfully, and at the start of the latest round of peace talks in 2002, they ran a virtual mini-state in area under their control. However, after the breakdown of the peace process in 2006, the Sri Lankan military launched a major offensive against the Tamil Tigers, bringing a vast area under their control and limiting the Tigers to a 21.5 km2 area in the Mullaithivu District.
As a result of this offensive, there is increasing belief that the final military defeat of the LTTE is near, although they may launch an underground guerrilla campaign if defeated as a conventional force. There have also been growing calls for the LTTE to surrender, including a joint statement issued in February 2009 by the United States, the European Union, Japan and Norway, which said there was "just a short time before the Tigers lost all the territory still under their control".

The Sri Lankan Civil War is the name given to the ongoing conflict on the island-nation of Sri Lanka. Since July 23, 1983, there has been on-and-off civil war, predominantly between the government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE, also known as the Tamil Tigers), a separatist armed organization which fights for the creation of an independent state named Tamil Eelam in the north and the east of the island.
Over 70,000 people have been officially listed as killed in the war since 1983. As one of the world's deadliest ongoing armed conflicts, it has caused significant adversity to the population, environment and the economy of the country. The tactics employed by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, have resulted in the organization being banned as a terrorist organization in 32 countries including the United States, Japan, Brazil, Australia, the nations of the European Union, and Canada.
After two decades of fighting and three failed attempts at peace talks, including the unsuccessful deployment of the Indian Army as a peacekeeping force from 1987 to 1990, a lasting negotiated settlement to the conflict appeared possible when a cease-fire was declared in December 2001, and a ceasefire agreement signed with international mediation in 2002. However limited hostilities renewed in late 2005 and the conflict began to escalate until the government launched a number of major military offensives against the LTTE beginning in July 2006, and drove the LTTE out of the entire Eastern province of the island. The LTTE then declared they would "resume their freedom struggle to achieve statehood".
The government then shifted its offensive to the north of the country, and formally announced its withdrawal from the ceasefire agreement on January 2, 2008, alleging that the LTTE violated the agreement over 10,000 times. Since then, aided by the destruction of a number of large arms smuggling vessels that belonged to the LTTE, and an international crackdown on the funding for the Tamil Tigers, the government has taken control of 99.8% of the territory previously controlled by the Tamil Tigers, including their de-facto capital Kilinochchi, main military base Mullaitivu and the entire A9 highway.
As a result of the latest fighting, experts predict the long running conflict could soon come to an end, with the government taking over the final bit of territory controlled by the Tamil Tigers. However the rebels have vowed to fight on, and are expected to wage an underground guerrilla campaign, launching hit and run attacks against the military and suicide bombings around the country, if they were defeated as a conventional force. On February 3, 2009, the United States, the European Union, Japan and Norway issued a joint statement urging the Tamil Tigers to lay down their arms and end hostilities, as there was just a short time before the Tigers lose all the territory still under their control.
The fate of civilians trapped in the 'no-fire zone' has become a major concern for the international community at this stage of war.

The Pink Chaddi Campaign kicked off on 5 February 2009 to oppose the Sri Ram Sena. The campaign is growing exponentially (4,500 at this point in the life of our Consortium of Pub-going, Loose and Forward Women) and that is not surprising. Most women in this country have enough curbs on their lives without a whole new franchise cashing in with their bully-boy tactics. Of course, a lot of men have joined the group as well.Here is we want to do with the Pink Chaddi Campaign. Join in. Be imaginative, have fun and fight back!What can you do?

Step 1: It does not matter that many of us have not thought about Valentine's Day since we were 13. If ever. This year let us send the Sri Ram Sena some love. Let us send them some PINK CHADDIS.

What Is TALIBAN...

The word Taliban is derived from talib, in turn from the Pashto Taliban, " students," loaned from Arabic talib,plus the Indo-Iranian plural ending -an (the Arabic plural being Tullab, Taliban being a dual form with the incongruous meaning, to Arabic speakers, of 'two students'). Since becoming a loanword in English, Taliban, besides a plural noun referring to the group, has also been used as a singular noun referring to an individual. For example, John Walker Lindh has been referred to as "an American Taliban" rather than "an American Talib."

The Taliban (Pashto: Taliban, also anglicised as Taleban; translation: "students") is a Sunni Islamist, predominately Pashtun movement that governed Afghanistan from 1996 until 2001, when its leaders were removed from power by Northern Alliance and NATO forces. It has regrouped and since 2004 revived as a strong insurgency movement fighting a guerrilla war against the current government of Afghanistan, allied NATO forces participating in Operation Enduring Freedom, and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). It operates in Afghanistan and the Frontier Tribal Areas of Pakistan.
The Taliban movement is headed by Mullah Mohammed Omar. Mullah Omar's original commanders were "a mixture of former small-unit military commanders and Madrasah teachers," and the rank and file made up mostly of Afghan refugees who had studied at Islamic religious schools in Pakistan. The overwhelming majority of the Taliban movement were ethnic Pashtuns from southern Afghanistan and western Pakistan, along with a smaller number of volunteers from Islamic countries or regions in North Africa, the Middle East and the former Soviet Union. The Taliban received valuable training, supplies and arms from the Pakistani government, particularly the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and many recruits from Madrasahs for Afghan refugees in Pakistan, primarily ones established by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam JUI.
Although in control of Afghanistan's capital (Kabul) and much or most of the country for five years, the Taliban regime, or "Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan," gained diplomatic recognition from only three states: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
While in power, the Taliban implemented the "strictest interpretation of Sharia law ever seen in the Muslim world," and became notorious internationally for their treatment of women.

Rules for women:
From the age of eight, women were not allowed to be in direct contact with men, other than a close blood relative, husband, or in-law (see mahram) Other restrictions were:

Women should not appear in the streets without a blood relative or without wearing a Burqa (also Burkha, Burka or Burqua).
Women should not wear high-heeled shoes as no man should hear a woman’s footsteps lest it excite him.
Women must not speak loudly in public as no stranger should hear a woman's voice
All ground and first floor residential windows should be painted over or screened to prevent women being visible from the street. A Taliban representative explained that “the face of a woman is a source of corruption for men who are not related to them”.
The photographing or filming of women was banned as was displaying pictures of females in newspapers, books, shops or the home.
The modification of any place names that included the word "women." For example, "women's garden" was renamed "spring garden".
Women were forbidden to appear on the balconies of their apartments or houses.
Ban on women's presence on radio, television or at public gatherings of any kind.
Dress code
Before its prescription, the burqa was just one of a choice of hijab. Its use generally occurred in urban areas to preserve female modesty and protect them from being coveted by other men The Taliban decree that the burqa must be worn on public outings was unpopular with the more cosmopolitan Afghan women, one of whom described it as "a moving prison...The Taliban want to steal my face, forbid us all our faces." Negotiating and navigating busy urban areas in a burqa could be hazardous due to impeded vision and hearing, and the voluminous cloth made the threat of exposing skin if the wearer should stumble a legitimate fear. The burqa also proved impractical for rural women as it interferes with physical work in the fields and care of livestock.
Reports state that enforcement varied between districts, as rural, nomadic and even some women in Herat suffered no negative reprisals for simply covering their heads with large scarves and leaving their faces visible. In Kabul enforcement was more stringent and physical punishment was a very real consequence for those who failed to adhere.
Brightly colored clothes were also banned as they were viewed as sexually attracting; a characteristic most unsuitable for women to display. A Taliban decree from 1996 states, 'If women are going outside with fashionable, ornamental, tight and charming clothes to show themselves, they will be cursed by the Islamic Sharia, and should never expect to go to heaven.'

Terrorism's New Face, Shri Ram Sena, MNS etc...

Now Terrorism chenged into a new face like Shri Ram Sena, MNS or Bajrang Dal. The seeds of Godse are thriving in India, and have been encouraged by political parties. Ordinary citizens are being discriminated on the basis of state origin, religion and gender on Republic day. More punishment needs to be meted to hooligans. If check Shri Ram Sena”s website it is clearly showing that its supported by political parties in India. In the name of Hinduism or Maratha Manas (MNS) these gangs are spreading kind of terrorism in youngsters.
When they have so much of problem in western life style then why they wear PANT and Shirt.. why don’t they wear dhoti and Kurta ? Pant & Shirt also came from western countries.
The inhuman attack on young girls allegedly by Sriram Sene and Bajaranga Dal activists, though not seriously taken by the local authorities yet, has now gained national attention. On the other side MNS attacks on Uttar Bhartiya. Now the question is who had given them this right to take all these steps.
Usually only major issues like communal disturbances and international events were seen on the national television channels. But Saturday’s attack is now being highlighted on national television.

One of the leading News Channels says in its report that at least two women have been hospitalized and are undergoing treatment. Ten suspected activists of Sri Ram Sene have been taken into custody on charges of assaulting customers of a pub in the busy Balmatta Road in the heart of the city. IGP (Western Range) A M Prasad said the attackers alleged that the pub owner was allowing the boys and girls to dance in an “obscene manner”. No damage has been caused to the pub in the incident, he added.
On the other hand, The Sri Rama Sene and the Bajarang Dal have also separately claimed responsibility for the attack. Prasad Attavar, State Deputy Convener of the Sri Ram Sena said that it was a spontaneous reaction against women, who flouted traditional Indian norms of decency.
According to News Channel in indua, on Saturday evening at around 4 pm, two people approached the front desk of the pub and requested permission to enter the premises. They said that they wanted to see what was going on inside.
Soon, nearly 40 people barged into the pub and targeted a group of five women, who had placed a lunch order. Subsequently, another group attacked three other women in the pub.

Just Think Today it is not just a problem of Maharashtra and Mangalore, tomorrow it may in your city….with your daughter and son…. Think once.

What Is JIHAD

JIHAD

While Islam in general is misunderstood in the western world, perhaps no other Islamic term evokes such strong reactions as the word ‘jihad’. The term ‘jihad’ has been much abused, to conjure up bizarre images of violent Muslims, forcing people to submit at the point of the sword. This myth was perpetuated throughout the centuries of mistrust during and after the Crusades. Unfortunately, it survives to this day.

The word Jihad comes from the root word jahada, which means to struggle. So jihad is literally an act of struggling. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that the greatest jihad is to struggle with the insidious suggestions of one’s own soul. Thus jihad primarily refers to the inner struggle of being a person of virtue and submission to God in all aspects of life.

Secondarily, jihad refers to struggle against injustice. Islam, like many other religions, allows for armed self-defense, or retribution against tyranny, exploitation, and oppression. The Glorious Qur’an says:

“And why should ye not fight in the cause of God and of those who, being weak, are ill-treated (and oppressed)? - Men, women, and children, whose cry is: "Our Lord! Rescue us from this town, whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from thee one who will protect; and raise for us from thee one who will help!"
[Al-Qur’an 4:75]

Thus Islam enjoins upon its believers to strive utmost, in purifying themselves, as well as in establishing peace and justice in the society. A Muslim can never be at rest when she sees injustice and oppression around her. As Martin Luther King Jr. said:

“We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people.”

Islam enjoins upon all Muslims to work actively to maintain the balance in which God created everything. However, regardless of how legitimate the cause may be, the Glorious Qur’an never condones the killing of innocent people. Terrorizing the civilian population can never be termed as jihad and can never be reconciled with the teachings of Islam.

Welcome to the world of peace! My guess is that none of us really know as to when we can really say thisI’m neither a Politician, nor a Police Official or an Army Officer… I’m not big and famous personality as well. I’m someone like you who walks this land, a commoner, an Indian- but with a vision! And let me make this clear, I’m not a man of mere words, but a man of action. In today’s world there are many killing issues, one of the most critical one being “Terrorism”.At any time if one was to switch on the Television or even flip through the newspaper you would find the press bleeding with news of people who have been affected by the various terrorists activities. With such a situation it makes one feel as if we are caught amongst a pile of dead bodies- I know it’s hard to imagine, but it’s the truth isn’t it! A common scenario these days- people crying out of the street, desperate mother’s walking the lanes searching for their lost children, wife’s waiting for their husbands to return, a caring brother looking into the eyes of many with the hope that he would find the familiar eyes of his lost sister- well we do tend to feel sad, for it is not you, but someone else on the street who is going through this pain, through this heart tearing loss! Let me ask you- what do you think one could do about this? Watch the TV, read the news, empathize and feel sad for those who are suffering! Isn’t it pathetic to watch our society go through this phase- the terrorist phase!No bomb is destined to destroy a particular faith or a group of people- all it seeks is mere annihilation. It simply looks to destroy, be it a Hindu or a Muslim all it wants is bloodshed, death. Period!It is immaterial whether the blast happens in India, America or even Pakistan it sure claims the lives of many poor and helpless people. And the most difficult being those who witness these blasts and still cling on to the hope that somewhere and someday their loved ones will knock their doors again. The important question is not that who all are terrorists, but how many such people are out there?! And let me add, there is certainly no use in pointing fingers at others, be it a particular group of people in the society or any particular religion. It’s high time that we understood that because of a handful we are blaming the entire basket!
